Meth Problem - HELP
Meth Problem - HELP
So today I was just driving to the bank and my meth light comes on (spraying) and wouldn't go off. I knew it was actually spaying and not a malfunction with the light because I went from cruising at 15.0 to 10.0. I stopped, turned the car off and it continued to spay meth with the car completely turned off... While I was under the hood my control box for my AEM meth kit was throwing a red error light and vibrating... Every time the error light came on the meth would start to spray. I pulled the meth fuse and was able to make it home. I assume the control box is bad and I need a new one. Does anyone know if rain will affect the box? It was raining really hard today... Also do these damn meth kits usually spay with the car off if there is a malfunction with the control box? Thanks for the help.

Could be a bad ground? I haven't installed an AEM kit so not sure how it's setup, but if you ground an aquamist incorrectly that can happen...not if the car is 100% OFF though! These things usually only happen during install on an unfamiliar vehicle....not after months of use.
Very weird, might wanna double-check your wiring
Otherwise ya, faulty control box

Sounds like if it was still spraying with the car off you might have a bad relay thats keeping the valve and the pump working. Not familiar with the specifics of the AEM kit though, I prefer Aquamist.
AEM is the cheapest meth kit for a reason. From their electronics to lacking check valve to insufficient meth nozzle sizing to their pumps. Its no surprise that your box is wigging out. Can be attributed to a number of things. Without more information would be purely speculation.
We installed one kit and after the customer could not start his car a few days later due to lack of a check valve in the kit and siphoning, we vouched never again to install such a crappy kit.
We will only install Aquamist HFS 2, 3, 6, TTP Meth kit and Labonte.

I am not sure if it failing closed was what was supposed to happen. It sprayed constantly "protect" your motor from running without the meth, but it continued to spray with it off possibly hydro locking it when you re-start the engine...
I would contact the vendor who sold you the unit for answers and possible warranty replacement it you have one....
Thanks guys for all the help. I have had the kit for over a year, trouble free till now. I agree with TTP, Aquamist HFS is the way to go. If I ever go meth again in the future that will be my route. I do believe it is the box but for now... NO METH!
SMC kit is the way to go. The pople are awesome. after my seals went bad in the pump from running nitro methane the rebuilt my entire kit for free. Did I mention I bought the kit used and completely dissasembled it. I sent them a box of peices and they sent it back perfect and even paid return shipping.

SMC kits are pretty crappy also. A customer from NC drove down to see us last year and before he even made it his SMC kit got stuck on, and he hydrolocked the engine so we built him a one of our TTP M.S. Race engines. Being excited when a manufacturer warranties a pump is
especially since they use flojet pumps whic are designed for RV motorhome water delivery systems and NOT DESIGNED for use with methanol. There are users here on EVOM that have had their SMC pump fail three times in one year. How many times do you want to take a chance with your engine?

thats y i use basic meth kits.
i have a 250psi meth pump, m14 nozzle in my fmic, activation by boost switch, and 1 wire to ground, 1 to power...for simplicity's sake.
K.I.S.S. applies to electronics and systems such as meth kits, imo.

first off im glad i stumbled across this thread
its funny cause ive always wanted the Aquamist HFS-6 kit and i know its expensive but ive been thinking if maybe i could get something equivalent for my needs but not need to spend soo much money. At the end I still think that extra $200-300 might be worth while for reliability & headache!
