Valve selection help needed

Hello,
i'm building my stroker motor in a few months, and i'm just trying to square away my engine component choices.

I've got CP 9:1 pistons.
I want 1mm oversize valves, will the flycuts need to be enlarged on the pistons?

I'm looking at Ferrea 6000 series at the mo, or the Supertech black nitrided valves.
I'm going to get the valves (and everything else in the engine) coated, with heat resistant coating.

I'm currently using Kelford uprated springs with my 272's, with stock retainers and keepers.

Do i need to upgrade my retainers and keepers with new Valves? or will the stems be OEM size and my stock components will work fine?

Cheers, Mike

just checked the CP website, their pistons are made for 1mm oversized pistons.

I just need to know if the Ferrea valves will be ok with stock retainers and keepers?
and is it worth spending the extra $90 and getting Comp Plus over the 6000 series.

Cheers, Mike

I know they will work with stock keepers and pretty sure the retainers should work too. I was thinking about the comps when i bought mine. I talked to slowboy and they told me they use the 6000's in all they're cars with no problems yet. So i went with them and saved the money.

Why not upgrade the retainers though? I mean if your thinking about spending the extra money on the comps..why not go with the 6000's and take that extra money and buy ti retainers?

I've got a set of Comp Plus +1mm valves for in/ex for $300 shipped. Brand new in Ferrea packaging.

titanium retainers are about $200USD which is almost the same price as the 6000 series valves...
If the stock retainers and keepers are suitable, then i think it's a waste of money.
And they are dual spring design, will they work with single springs?

Ferrea valves are fantastic. 100% for sure they will work great for you.

As far as the springs and retainers, just pick up a set of cosworth beehives or similar, the stock retainers in the evo are very light, and the design of the beehives are far superior to that of a standard spring. With a stroker you are not revving very high anyways, so you PROBABLY can get away with the stockers, but if you want some extra peace of mind, upgrade the springs and call it a day.

thanks for the replies.

after reading valve sizing discussions, i might just get +1mm Oversize on the intake and leave the exhaust stock sizing.

Unless anyone else has further input into increasing the exhaust valve size too?

The head will have minor porting, nothing dramatic.

Cheers, Mike

Mike..you did not mention how much power your trying to get from your combo, but we can tell you that the Ferrea valve is a great choice. The 6000 series we have used in engines producing 800whp and lower. Above 800 we like to use the comp plus. The difference is in the coating the comp plus comes with that helps it withstand the heat associated with larger frame turbo combo's. We also use the stock size valve up to 1000whp..above that you need the head to flow in the upper lifts that the stock size valve won't afford. And honestly without major porting, large cams, big turbo, you won't see any benefit with going oversize.

Will an OS valve lower the port velocity and effectively shift the VE to the right?

Where is this valve discussion thread at?
