Stock evo8 10.5 hotside upgrade

Curious to know if the 10.5 hotside turbine housing upgrade for the Evo 8 has any draw backs.
Is their any gain allowed by changing the turbine wheel to larger size like the FP Evo Green Turbo.

Power gains when swapping the 9.8 hotside to a 10.5 are between 10-15 WHP. There is a slight tradeoff in loss of turbo spool when going to the larger housing. You could just pickup a used IX turbo which already comes configured with the 10.5 turbine housing as well as the improved IX compressor housing.

^ Actually I believe Scott at FP did some testing on the VIII 10.5 vs. XI turbo and the VIII 10.5 produces more gains out the top becuase there is less turbulance in the compressor housing. I believe it is becasue the ve is small or some fancy stuff that doesn't make since to me because I'm not an engineer but the VIII w/ 10.5 hotside does make more power than the IX turbo. This is the results that Scott at FP saw. If you wanted more info I would give him a call.

No, Mikey! AFAIK, the IX/10.5 produces more HP vs. the VIII/10.5. It`s only logical though as otherwise the 73mm FP Greens and Reds would come configured with the VIII comp housing instead of the IX housing.

^ I laughed at Scott when he told me that too. Same concept at the larger compressor housing for the Red. The 64mm produces more peak power than the 80mm housing. I'm just relaying what Scott spoke with me about. FP did the testing because we were going to make a 80mm housing for my stock IX to see if I would make anymore peak power. They made more horsepower with the VIII compressor housing than the IX and they assumed the 80mm would have lost more topend... Not to mention the larger housing hurts spool. Just saying what I was told Sparky...

Thx Mikey...I'll give Scott a call.
Are turbine and compressor wheels interchangeable and available for the Td05.
Like, can I just build my own configuration using the shaft and matching wheel and housing.
I will ask Scott but I anticipate he'll say "let us do that for you"...Green, Red ,white...but just need to know if it can be done in my garage.

When I had the stock VIII turbo with 10.5 hotside (as from factory) on my 05 VIII, after a few mods I came into actual compressor surge sooner. Some people thought it was from the DV but it turned out to be actual surge. I was only making about 350whp and 340wtq at that point but with the work I had done it spooled so quickly and was on the far right side of the compressor map and ran into surge.

Yes they are but you have to get the turbo cut and balanced properly... I would not play unless you know what you are doing...

I've been looking to change to the 10.5 hotside because of the stock 8 turbo falling off the power at the top end, will this solve my top end power loss?

as they said earlier, putting the 10.5 hotside on will increase top end so based on that info, id say yes it will not fall flat up to.

It won't eliminate it, but it will improve it.

I replaced my stock viii turbo with a 6.5 tme turbo. I can tell you it was very noticable. It spools a little faster than stock and holds a little better up top. I don't rev my car super high though.
