Aggressive cams and cold starts
Aggressive cams and cold starts
I'm in the process of gathering go-fast parts to install in the spring. One of the things I've gotten already is GSC S2 cams (new revision) along with GSC Beehive springs.
Lately though, I've been having some second thoughts about this particular mod. The thing I love most about my car is that in 3 years of daily driving and being parked outside 24/7 in Chicago, it has not given me a single problem. I do not want to give up this worry-free driveability for anything.
Everything else I have planned for the car (o2 dump, front mount with piping, fuel pump, injectors, BBK) is essentially bolt-on. I'm perfectly comfortable with all of that, as it will all add power without messing with anything internal.
Do I have a reason to worry about running aggressive cams on a car that will endure dead cold starts every single day for half of each year? I've seen videos of the S2s and they sound really lopey, which is awesome but for some reason kind of worries me when it comes to how happy the car will be to have to wake up in below-freezing temps every morning.
Thanks!

Iv had the Kelfords for a while and never had a problem starting them. The lope is rediculous on cold starts and makes one of the nastiest sounds i'v ever heard lol. As long as you are tuned right you shold not have any problem starting the car every single day like I do.
If you are tuning it or if someone else is doing it there are a few tricks to make it all work better.
A little richer at idle, adjusting the MIVEC to max retard (-1.2*), some timing, and if nothing else a little adjustment of the BISS.

i have kelford 272s on my car and live in chicago, starts just fine in freezing cold, but wait at least 5 mins for the car to warm up because until the idle is fine they make some nasty noises but its nothing to worry about lol, youl know what i mean after you cam your car. also, consider some arp head studs with your cams
