4G63 block adapter issue

So I've never owned an evo, driven many, love then, its my damn dream car...so when i found an opportunity to put an Evo 8 motor in my off-road car, did i hesitate? HELL NO.

I ordered an adapter plate for my engine/trans combo and the website said "1992 mitsubishi 2.0 adapter". Called around and got as much info as possible, and pretty much found out that there were two differences...all cases for mitsu 4gs were the same for all evo years except the fact of the 6 bolt and 7 bolt cranks. 6 bolt cranks have a short block, 7 bolt cranks have a long block. Having an evo 8 i have the 7 bolt long block. So i placed the order and the company asked specifically whether i have 6 or 7 bolt.

I get the plate and its totally wrong, now the company is claiming i messed up and its my fault...before i begin a long hard fought battle, i wanna make sure i was informed correctly there mitsu, since 1992 has not built a 2.0 aside from the evo...anyone have anything to help me out??

Will

Sorry to say you are wrong. There are two versions of the 4G63.

Eclipse/Talon/Laser/GVR4 (roughly 1989-1999) and EVO 1-3 (1992-1996) share the original orientation. There are 6 and 7 bolt variations of these engines.

In 1996-2007 with the EVO 4-9 they reversed the orientation.

So you are saying that because of the change in orientation inside the engine bay, they changed the engine block?

also that the two versions of the 4g63 were made...both were a 2.0 and the one int he talon/eclipse...was a diff block from that of the ones in the evo of 1992?

sorry if im being tedious i just want to make sure...i might add that the block that was used to make the original adapter was a (at least they say) a 1992 Mitsubishi 2.0 motor

Yes they changed the block.

I wouldn't really call it two different engines but the "original" 1G 4G63's were 6-bolt roughly 90-92, 7 bolts 93-94, and then the 2G 7-bolt was 95-99 of which the 95-96 was prone to crank walk. I had it once...
This is the US market.

The JDM market EVO 1 and 2 were 6-bolt, EVO 3 was a seven bolt.

The above engines were all the same or darn similar on the bell housings (minus the wide block but I am not going there). So to answer your second question, the 1992 EVO and Eclipse engines were the same for our purposes.

The new engine change came to Japan anyway in 1996 with the EVO 4. So you'd want a Japanese made adapter for engines past 1996, or a US made adapter to be for engines starting in 2003 when the EVO 8 came over.

I'm sure I'm a bit off on the info but that's the just of it.

ahhhh ok its making more sense now...so when they asked me 6 or 7 bolt...when i said seven they made me a plate for the 93-95 models u speak of...which will not work on my evo 8...and it is close, but not exact...which explains the "darn close" term u use, haha thank you very much sir this gets me 90% of the info i need...thank you..

Honestly i would use older 4g63 6 bolts.Theres more of them out there since they came in eagles, talons and laser.fwd, awd and na use same block na doesnt have oil squirters though which would be good for your application. Also the older ones are much much cheaper the evo motors.
