Ok I need some feedback here. What is your favorite short throw and why, do you even like any? I'm looking for one that is as smooth an install as my revo was for my RSX

i just did mine so ill chime in..

got the works short throw kit through maperformance, it comes with the retainer clip and pivot cups when you buy it, so no messin around with the stock ones.

Install was very easy, i did it along with some speedsource shifter base bushings, took about an hour total.

def not going back to stock, shifts are shorter, and feel more crisp, also there is no play anymore , and it feels great with my blox knob.

and might as well do the shifter base bushings while your in there.. http://www.joe250.com/cars/evo8/shif...ebushings.html

Very nice write up I appreciate the detailed pictures. Did you notice a change in the hieght of the shifter was well as the throw?

YES! A short-shifter is a great addition to the 5-speed. My recomendation is the one found on eBay for $29 shipped. It is identical to the Fidanza and B&M down to the box and packaging (I bought them all to confirm this). It even includes a set of shifter base bushings which alone normally go for almost $30.

Damn after reading this thread I want to get one now too.

Just a quick (stupid) question. That ebay listing only has 01-05 models listed. I'm assuming I can still use it even with an Evo IX (5 speed of course)?

edit - Looks like it'll be fine.

Personally I see no point in a short shift. I like the feel of the the stock throw, But I hate the feeling of a sloppy shifter. What I did was in-car and under-hood solid aluminum shifter bushings from AMS. If I were you I would try that first and see how you like the feel and see if you still want the short shift.

Interestingly enough, when I contacted Shep about my trans swap, I asked him if we could leave out the Shifter that he included in the 6spd to 5spd conversion kit because I wanted to buy a short shifter.

He recommended I do not buy a short shifter and stick with just the stock shifter.

I wondered why, I never asked for some reason. I just figured if John Shepherd said stick with the stock shifter, that was good enough for me

i am running B&M short shifter with all aluminum bushings under hood and shifter base... nothing but good things to say... only complaint is that you occasionally miss a gear because i have ZERO play in the shifter... crisp and precise... but I LOVE IT!!!

Its puts additional stress on the transmission when using short shifter. If the gearbox balks you will have more speed from the short shifter potentially causing a problem.
