drivetrain is going :(

i been reading all the posts of tranny or tc whines and am dreading to find out what is going on.....but the sounds are getting louder and it's time to face the music....the car still pulls with no bind up.....i have a lightened flywheel/act clutch and almost every add on outside the motor....it almost sounds like brakes without pads when i accel. or decel. ....hollow metal on metal ......i hear it in every gear from 5mph and up.....but louder on decel. prob. because i am off the gas.....here is what i can't understand.......it's loud in any gear on deceleration but when i put the clutch in or put the car in neutral and coast....it's smooth, no sounds, only when i load the car and stomp on the gas or when i back off the gas and in gear decel.....i was just about about to bring it in to a shop for my new cams/timing belt/water pump....figures.....just when i save enough money for that job.....something else goes.......anyone know what this sounds like....i am mr. murphy of murphy's law :

I have a similar situation, a scraping sound mostly on deceleration but during acceleration too. Gets quieter as the car warms. It's not that noisy, and it hasn't increased in amplitude. I attributed it to a throw out bearing, or maybe the Exedy single plate stage 2 clutch. I don't think it's related to the transmission or transfer case as I've not had any problems with either. Don't fix it unless it's broken??

sounds like a clutch noise. ive installed the exedy stage 2 plus flywheel about 500miles ago, and out of the box makes a ton of racket on decel. maybe time for a new clutch, how many miles on the one in the car now?

Have you done anywork under your car recently?? It can make some wierd noises if the driveshaft touches the exhaust. Just get under it and take a good look around before you panic

I'm starting to hear noises in my car as well but I'm under the assumption it's my throw-out bearing taking a dumb on me.

I haven't had a chance to do any research but how much of a PITA is it to change the clutch in these cars? I can only imagine I'll find my religious beliefs that weekend. lol.

again like i said...i don't think it's the throwout bearing....it's when i am under a load, whether it's accel. and decel. that makes me think it's the transfer case.....i will have it on the lift monday to listen closer....i'm hoping it's not the tc or trans....lol...cause my pockets are getting lighter

thats why im staying it may be a clutch issue. considering the clutch experiences the most stress under accel and decel. how many miles on clutch?

It does sound like drivetrain issues. Just to make sure, does the noise stop when you are idle with the clutch pedal depressed?

yes at idle clutch in or not....no sounds....only when the car is rolling and gears/clutch are engaged.....at first i thought it was the resonance coming from the lightweight flywheel but the sound has gotten louder and kinda embarrasing when driving in light traffic....they look at me like when you look at others with grinding brakes or a dragging muffler....i maintain my car, i swear....lmao

Good Luck... Lord knows everybody dealing with performance has these days. Take if from a guy whose LICP popped out on a highway with no shoulders. Hadn't it been for a cop, could've sworned i'd be hit... Feared for my life. Plus almost lost a finger while working on the car a different day; but then again, for me: the perils of performance do not outweight the thrill of speed.

Hope you get over this speed bump with a scratchless front bumper underneath: Good Luck my friend.
