anyone running a muffler on their dump tubes?

not as much a question as a public service announcement. i havent seen any discussion here about it like i do on the other forums. anyways it was quite a hot topic on the subaru forums i used to frequent and when i had my sti i tried running one. it worked great! noise was drastically reduced and there were no ill side effects. my train of thought is if it was restricting flow enough if would cause a spike or some boost creep. i had none and my logs looked the same as before.

here is the one i used. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUP-344-1705/

here is is mounted.

here is a sound clip, ewg opened at about 5,600 rpm. the vid doesnt show how much it reduced the noise, it screamed before!

I love dumps, it's not like your at WOT all the time. And even if your EWG is recirculated it's not like your car's remotely quiet anyway.

o2 dumps are the ****. It's scary loud fun, just the way I like it. Oh and most important, it helps add power and quicker spoolup.

If you don't want it loud when the WG opens then recirc it to the exhaust. I like shock prople when I drive by at full boost. That muffler thing is rediculous

i wanted it quiet without the power loss of recirculating it.

Icant imagine that recirc vs that muffler you are going to show any noticeable power differences. I would think the muffler may restrict just the same

Obviously it restricts somewhat. Its blocking the hole.

If you do it right, you won't lose any power from recirculating. Like running the dump tube back in at a low angle... maybe 30 degrees making it all flow smoth.... right after the WB O2 sensor.

maybe on a smaller setup, but on the bigger setups there will be a power loss.

its a lot better than extra backpressure on the turbine wheel from recirculating it.

Call me a ricer, but I love the sound of my dump tube at WOT. I'd toss that thing in the garbage

I dont know about that. I know their is no hole blocked in a recirculating setup.
