Shifting into 1st gear at what speed
well i just changed my gear oil last night, and now i can shift into 1st gear going about 10 mph and before i couldnt shift in to 1st without being totally at a stand still, just making sure this is normal thank you
Dude, you shouldn't shift into first gear unless you're at a stand still, you're asking for trany problems doing that. IMO
I shift into first gear at speed all the time. Im running a stock trans thats in a 03 with 75k on it.... Its also an ex track car with over 50track days on it, and has a bunch of launches... I rev match every shift though so IMO it comes down to how your doing it really. If you can match revs and arent forcing it in you should be fine.
The maker put synchronizers on 1st gear so you could shift into first while moving. The faster you are moving when you do this, the harder it is on the drivetrain and engine. However, if you don't understand this, you shouldn't be driving a manual transmission car.
You will be fine as long as you rev match. But to answer your question, yes this is normal. A lot of the times when changing gear oil shifts feel smoother and more precis. The trans is cleaner.

i am able to shift into first at any time, (I dont) but unless stopped or moving 1-3mph i do. i also dont autocross so i cant state anything about that. so yes it is normal that you can shift into 1st while moving. just BE CAREFUL a trans is pretty expensive
i don't autocross either (yet), but i do shift into first when almost at a complete stop. car's pretty much stock.
i'd have to agree here with the response - as long as you're matching the revs correctly, and depending on what your current and future goals are with your car, you should be fine.
