Won't go in gear after a few passes??
Went to the track tonight and I have a small problem. I need to figure out what it is quick. Made 3 passes total but after my 3rd pass I parked the car to let it cool down. I've got about 3000 miles on the Exedy twin HD and shep racing tranny. After letting it cool down for about 30 minutes I went to pull it back into the staging lanes but had a really hard time getting it into gear. I tried to put in 1st before I went into reverse because it always helps to do that. When I tried to put it in first it was really stiff and wouldn't go in. I felt the car move forward slighty. I knew then the clutch wasn't disengaging properly for some reason. Every gear was hard to get into. With the car off it goes into every gear with no problem at all. We left the track and the car shifts just fine while moving. But when your stopped it's almost impossible. I have to put it in 1st when I come to a stop but as I'm still rolling slowly. Otherwise it's really stiff and won't go in. What could this be? I have stainless lines, upper and lower, and they aren't leaking. The fluid level
is fine too. Maybe the slave cylinder? Or does the clutch just need adjustment? I did the wave spring mod by adding 2 extras off the stock clutch. I've already practiced my lauches before going to the track. I've done 10-15 total launches. Only a few off of 2 step. Help me out guys!! I'm taking it to the shop that installed everything in the morning.

After the track, I went home and let the car sit for about an hour and a half. I decided to take it for a drive to see if anything had changed. I noticed it was nearly impossible to go into gear with the vehicle running and the clutch pedal seemed to be a bit softer. I guess because of this it seems that this is a hydraulic issue. I checked the Clutch Mastercylinder inside the car and there doesn't appear to be anyfluid leaking, the slave cylinder also looks normal. Maybe there is air in the lines?? or its pulling in air from somewhere else?? If you have any input that would be great. I'm about to drive the car to the shop that installed the clutch, so I'll see if the problem has gotten worse.
over heated the clutch and possibly warped the disc's? just a thought. if the disc's are warped it wont allow proper disengagement because the pressure plate cant pull fully away from the expanded disc's.
did you try re-adjusting the clutch rod?

I would say it could be clutch problems as well. The Exedy Twin is not a track clutch. They over heat easy and usually have a self life of only 40 launches. Buy the $800 twin to triple upgrade kit and call it a day

40 launches?? I bought this clutch because everybody raves about how awesome it is. I wouldn't have gotten it if I knew that. I like going to the dragstrip. I want a clutch that will do 150-200 launches and last a few years. Most of my driving is just cruising around town. Occasional racing on the weekends, but not from a stop. I don't wanna keep dumping money into clutches. My car is almost bone stock and it can't handle a few track days?
Yep 40... You really need a triple. Your best best without wasting a lot of money is to get the twin to triple upgrade from big valley performance. It is 800 shipped. You can launch the Exedy triple and not have to worry!

The amount of launches a twin can take is subjective and depends greatly on your driving style.
There are plenty of people on here with Exedy Twins who have a **** ton more than 40 launches and the clutches are still in one piece.
OP: try adjusting your master cylinder rod & bleed your clutch line.

There are plenty of people on here with Exedy Twins who have a **** ton more than 40 launches and the clutches are still in one piece.

So how many launches can you "typically" get out of the triple metallic clutches? I'm not about to waste another $1000. I know it's advertised to be able to withstand 880 ft/lbs of tq.
I don't really know. I have not heard of people having problems on those. Over a hundred prob. A good person for you to ask is John Bradley (Aaron at English Racing) He would know for sure! Shoot him a pm

Does it make any unusual sounds? I've heard the twin rattles a bit, does it sound different, or less of a rattle? If it's less, it could be a warped disc (less space to rattle around), if it sounds exactly the same, it could just be your clutch fluid/cylinder.
I'd think a properly broken in Exedy Twin, with just 3k miles on it, could withstand 3 launches just fine. Power dependent, of course.
