Broke trans (video

My car came with an Act clutch, not sure which. The clutch had very harsh engagement and would shake the whole car trying to engage from a stop. You would hear shuttering.

My clutch also had a very noticable chatter at idle and vibration in 1st and second gear from 2 to 3 thousand rpms then dissapear. I thought it was just something I had to deal with because of the clamping force of the clutch.

I just got my car tuned, Sence i had in mind of getting my tranny rebuilt anyways, I did 3 launches last night. on my way home I was stopped at a stop light.

When I began to engage the clutch, It was MUCH easier to engage, no shuttering, no harsh engagement whatso ever, and it grabbed. I was excited. Until I realised my shifter felt really weird, Like as if all my shifter bushings turned to swiss cheese because my shifter moves so freely now as the video shows. Ill be tearing it apart tomorrow, but If you have any ideas on what It could be or what tocheck, let me know.

Ill keep this thread updated.

Im going to sleep so Ill respond in the morning

AS you just said, check your shifter bushings both below the shifter and under the hood.

It was the lower (bigger bushing) linkage that disconnected. Im guessing the OEM pin came loose somehow.

I found the washer on my control arm but I had to buy a cotterpin to reconnect it. This linkage kept the shifter from moving side to side.

When I took the video the linkage must of been on the verg of comming off. After i was playing with it, the shifter stuck in one gear only (reverse) and would just move straight up and down.

It seems like something so simple, but Ive been having trans problems for a while. Let me list my issues.

Occasional gear lockout. Seems to happen when I first start the car or come to a light. A little muscle fixes the issue.

Grinding of second third and 5th in high rpm shifting, 6-7k.

Excessive clutch chatter

Rough engagement that shakes the whole car while slipping the clutch from neutral to first.

vibration in the trans when slowly accelerating from 2 to 4k rpms.

And I might be forgetting something but I figure its my Act clutch. Im not sure which type unfortunatly

Have you replaced the tranny fluid? I believe a lot of people have much better engagement with fresh quality fluid. Fairly easy to do as well. I'd hit up the small checks before tearing into the tranny.
