Hows my flywheel? (pics)

Resurface?
Reuse? (do nothing)
Replace? (why if so)

It came off the car at 85k still with the original stock clutch in good shape with some material left on it. I am switching to an ACT 6-puck sprung so I am trying to figure out what to do about the flywheel. Budget is tight so please dont just tell me to buy xyz lightweight flywheel just because.

You can get the flywheel resurfaced for very very cheap. That would be what I would do.

Take it to a machine shop w/ a "Blanchard" grinder.

Good as new in about .009

Back side looks like normal, cast iron. No marks or cracks.

I am going against what everyone else is saying to resurface it. I would replace it with a lightweight new flywheel since you are in there doing the clutch, you might as well put all new parts in. However, if you know it is in good condition, must be since it came out with the oem clutch at 85k miles, then it may be fine to resurface.

He specifically said he didn't want to buy a lightweight flywheel

I have seen worse just scuffed up and placed back in cars.

You could resurface, but just check the deck height after the clutch install.
Some shops take a little more off than they should, next thing you get shifting/ clutch disengagement problems.

If it was mine and money was tight, scuff it and put it back in. Hot spots don't seem to be that bad. just my .02

Hell, I'm still on my original!

I think I can take it to school and run it on the flywheel cutting machine then. Thanks for all the suggestions!

as said, try to clean it up with some sandpaper, maybe 120-220 grit to start and see what it does. So I wouldn't have any downtime I bought a new flywheel for my DSM when I was changing the clutch. The OE one looked about like yours and it cleaned up in a few minutes and looked like new so I just reused it- 296k on it now.
