Difference between Internal Wastegate n External Wasteagte
Title asks the question
-benefits of the external wastegate
-benefits of the external wastegate

I agree with both of the other posts, however don't waste your time on the stock turbo. It won't help you much if anything! It will cost to much to mod it for 0 gains. If you had a Red or Black then I would do it, otherwise don't waste your time. instead you should grab up a nice 02 housing/dump.

The main benefit of running an external wastegate is to give waste gases there own flow path. They meet up with with main exhaust further downstream so there isn't a huge amount of turbulence just behind the turbo (which deprives the turbo of power).
Poppet valves react quicker which can reduce/eliminate boost spikes.
Poppet valves flow better, thus a smaller valve can be used without causing creep.
Most poppet valves use a diaphragm that gives you the ability to control pressure to the top and bottom allowing you to force the gate closed under certain situations. This also allows you to use a lighter spring pressure for a wider range of boost pressures but still capable of reaching high boost pressures.
