Help!!!

ok so here is whats up.

lately i have had this whine from the rear. it was not that bad but got worse and worse and worse. i knew for a fact i had a bad wheel bearing so i just figured thats what the whine was from. i changed it out today. the whine is still there . its not to bad when you are going around thirty mph. but when you get to 50 and higher it is loud and annoying. ok so my thought is damn this sucks its my transfer case..... BUT it only makes the sound when i am nuetral. when i put the car in gear the whine goes away . any ideas what this could be?

thanks!
ryan

Mattz IDK if this helps but since you asked me...... My problem ended up being my TOB being noisy every now and again It will whine in gear but as soon as i push the clutch in it goes away. It also rattles. I got under the car and pulled the inspection plug on the trans and see it rattling around. My issue never sounded like it came from the rear. I would check your braking components as well as your suspension components. I would say could be your rear diff but that would whine regardless i would think in gear or out of gear. Probably not much help but that's all i got.

Try putting the car on jack stands or a lift where you can actually get under the car to see where the noise is coming from. Its really tough to diagnose something like this online consider these cars makes LOTS of sounds even running perfect haha

Id say the TOB is a good possibility though.

Cheers!
