I've done it. Block the holes with some oil drain bolts. I found the right size at Advance auto parts

I think Buschur sells plugs to do this too. Not sure

I've heard of some people looping the lines without the oil cooler in place. Anyone else do this?

What's the purpose of removing the oil cooler? What are the benefits?

Seems to me an oil cooler - cools the oil, isn't that a good thing?

Metal in the oil cooler is near impossible to get out without some space aged ultrasonic cleaning. That and a new oil cooler from mitsu is a heck of a lot of money.

There are after market solutions out there but many run there cars without one with no ill effect

I realized that after an engine failure your supposed to replace the oil cooler. I've just never heard or read of anyone removing it completely.

Thanks for the answer

I hear ya I wouldn't run my car without one either man.

I'd likely get an after market piece from say STM or AMS rather then have to buy a new OEM

I run the AMS oil cooler kit. Its a well designed unit and fits perfect. IMO keep the oil cooler for a street car. Do not block it off or remove it.

Go to ebay order the cooler (ie: PART # 180472117040)
Then google for your nearest dealer for these hoses "Aeroquip FC332-10 AQP 5/8".

Make your own bracket or just ziptie it. This will outperform the stocker and won't break your piggybank.

Seems like the money to replace the oil cooler is worth the $500-600, when you consider engine life. I just don't really see any benefit of not running one.

My question is...those not running one, are they dedicated drag cars and not street or road race cars?

Stock oil coolers are relatively cheap (under $200), especially when compared to the cost of a rebuilt motor.
