Swapping clutch discs....what do you think?

Guys

I've got a car im about to pick up this weekend. I'm acquiring it off of a friend.

It currently has an ACT HDSS setup in it, in which I installed probably 40k miles ago. The previous owner occasionally got on the car, but I dont believe he ever made it to the drag strip, and most of the time it served DD duties.

I'm getting the car equipped with an FP HTA Green, 1050 injectors, head with portwork, 272's, 3" exhaust, etc....its essentially one fuel pump short of being 500awhp capable (I can assume then it will run out of injector on E85)

Im worried the HDSS isnt going to be enough, and I will have the engine out this coming weekend. I'm debating on just buying the HD6 disc (which is rated at 650tq compared to 500 that the HDSS is rated at)

My question is this...

Since the car hasnt been abused much at all, do you think the pressure plate would be fine, instead of just sticking a whole clutch kit in there.

The HD6 disc can be had for 140 bucks, and the PP is the same between the HDSS and HD6.....

Your going to be pushing the green close to its limit to get it to 500 whp.

There has been lots of data lately supporting the new FP HTA Green 80 and its abilities to make over 500whp

One example

I would. Resurface the flywheel, throw in the six puck disk and call it good. You'd have yourself a 650 ft. lbs. of torque rated clutch. Clutches hold torque, not horsepower.

Yep, I know, thats why I said this....

Its just unfortunate someone else wanted to argue the abilities of the turbo, as opposed to help answer the question....

You don't think the Organic Sprung Street Disc will hold? I hope it does, since I've just installed the kit, and also thinking of going Green HTA on 2.4L 4G64.

My experience with a Sprung 6-puck, single disc Spec Stage 3 clutch is, that puck clutches are horrible for DD duties, and every shift shocks the driveline. Maybe the ACT is different though so I don't know.

Mike@AWD told me the best combination for ACT HD pressure plate for holding torque and being DD, is to use the Organic unsprung street disc, so that may be something to think about. I still went with the sprung street disc because I want to be able to drive the damn car on the streets without it being a chore.

The car was showing in the logs it was making ~440/400 at the time it decided to punch a hole in the block, however, I have intentions of doing the double-pumper and shooting for closer to 500 with the new built block setup

I have no doubt it will hold, but for how long? I dont want to take it to the drag strip one time and have it start slipping....ya know?

yeah man I know what you're sayin'

Update the thread when you decide which disc you're going to use, and let me know how driveable it is compared to the street disc.

What built block setup did you go with?

Good luck

I'm purchasing a used combo from the former motion lab owner

Specs are:
2.0L
9;1 je pistons
Manley I beam rods
No balance shaft

Kelfords 272
Dual supertech springs
Gate timing belt
L19 studs

The engine has about 10k on it, but it has been proven on the dyno

Ordered the HDG6 disc from No-Limit today, had a badass price ($127 shipped to IL)

I have installed this clutch on another customer car and I havent heard one peep of a complaint from him...so I figured I'll give it a shot.

Im just going to resurface the flywheel and clean the PP the best I can and see what happens!
