oil pump pully has resistance when turned?

oil pump pully has resistance when turned?

okay to start i just had my motor stroked out and im puting it back together, it hasnt ran yet. the balance shafts have been eliminated and a gsc race balance shast installed. now after oil pump was installed it has resistance every 90 degress when turned? should it spin completely free or should this be like this? alittle help im new to this site but have owned my evo 9 for 4 yrs now.

It sounds like your shaft is bent. It should feel the same way each turn when counterbalance removed.

its brand new, do u think it could be machined wrong/ installed wrong?

What kind of bend would result in resistance every quarter turn?

don't run it like that obviously. did you use a new front cover or install the new shaft into your old cover. I heard of a similar issue when re-using a cover, it can get gaulled while taking it apart

potential problems.

bearing not installed correct.
front cover not square with block.
improperly machined shaft.

alrite took the cover off and inspected the balance shaft it seemed straight and it spun freely when out. so i reinstalled it continulously spining the pump while i tightened up the bolts. there is some resitance but nothing like before. thanx for all ur help guys!

I realize its a bit late but I just wanted to add that when I checked out my oil pump the pully span freely enough that I could spin it and it would keep going for a turn or two.

really did u still have a shaft still behind your pump? cause mine did that on the bench but not after i reinstalled it. i just figured it was cause of the close tolerances of the bearing
