tcase/driveline failure
Do you have a stock exhaust, aftermarket with cat, or test pipe? I have heard of similar issues when someone's cat gave out, blocking the exhaust flow.
Or, your car could be pulling serious amounts of timing due to a number of things.

Get under the car and bang on your cat. Wait until it's cool first
If you hear a rattling sound in the cat that means a peice of the honey comb has broken and is blocking the flow. I've seen this happen first hand twice. The other time I saw it on a '98 civic, nothing in the cat was loose, it was just clogged so badly, that it would actually compress the spring bolts and hiss between the downpipe and cat sounding like a turbo
The car at full throttle would not accelerate at all, and literally sound like you were brake boosting. If you kept the throttle pinned, the car would start to buck.If the clutch was slipping, the engine would rev as normal. It'd be like leaving your car in neutral and trying to release the clutch and drive off as if your were in first. The enigne would just rev freely. And you're right, if the t-case fails, worst case it'll lock up the wheels and in turn killing you.
