Emission Q: Test Pipe

Hey guys, I wondering if you could help me out with a emissions question I have regarding a test pipe fitted to the evo. Emissions are due in 2mo, throws CEL. How do I get it to pass on the cheap/effectively?

P.S. I do have a ODB Scanner. Can I erase and then go in?
And sorry if this is a dumb question. I tried searching.

First and formost; find a stock cat and get it in there. If emissions there are anything like CA's, you have very little chance of passing if you don't have one.
What else has been done to the car? If nothing too over the top, you could disconnect the battery after the cat is in and drive it around for about a week. The car will run though it's tests and should be ready for testing.
Over the top; catch can, open filter intake, speed density, stand alone, etc.
Pull the code and let us know what comes up.

best thing would be to scan the car. there may be more things wrong with it. you should test drive it around and then give it a scan in case the seller erased something. of course for this, you need to put some mileage on it. if it's just the test pipe, find a use cat on here and switch it out. remember if you just disconnect the battery terminal during any process, you will need to drive it around before taking it for emissions, at least 100 miles to be sure. i had one of my cars that i had stored away for the winter failed because of that reason. it may be different in your state but just letting you know so you don't have to make multiple trips if this was the case.

I wouldn't even think about buying that car without having an Evo-specific shop going through it.

Like I said find out how strict they are in AZ becasue there isn't a snowball's chance in hell it would pass in CA.
... and a GT30 turbo and a four puck clutch that wasn't abused!? What, he put those in there for ***** and giggles?
I'd avoid that car like the plauge.
