hey everyone sorry i keep posting new threads but i dont think my title is what it should be. my tuner said that this is why he thinks my head gasket is going bad because the car gets extremely hot under boost. i also get the flashing CEL in 4th and 5th gear both with medium throttle and WOT

missfire, elevated combustion temps. could be a high egt issue, or running lean in one cylinder.

can it be a symptom of a head gasket problem?

are you pushing coolant into the reservoir? Pull the spark plugs and look inside at the pistons. They should all look the same.

This is the second thread you made about this.

You said you smell coolant out of the exhaust. You probably have a leaky head gasket from changing the head studs 1x1.

the other thread was about the knock...im trying to narrow down the search and im considering any other option before tearing apart my head. i dont run very high boost and i dont beat on my car a lot so im having a hard time believing its the head gasket even though there is a good chance that it is.....

i just want people to give me other ideas for the rise in coolant temp

a 185 to 200 rise in coolant temp is pretty common on my car. that is with an ambient air of 70 or less.

Here in TX it's normal for my car to cruise at 192 and when I really get on it (full 3rd gear pull) I see 206. I think I have seen 207 and even 208 once but don't remember it getting higher. Usually this is with ambient temps around 85-90 and my intake temps around 100-105 (but I have had intake temps as high as 111 and it didn't effect the coolant temp after a pull).

Whats happening is your t-stat is closing then the water temp is raising, then the t-stat opens again. I see 187-203, what you need is a t-stat with a lower opening temp.

Oh and 206 isnt not hot at all, 220-230 is hot and above that is over heating.

I just did a WOT run for you up to 100mph (dipped into 4th) and got to 210deg. I was still not worried. However your above statement does have me a bit concerned. Are you running Tephra mods with the CEL flash on Knock? If you are then your tuner isn't tuning your knock out. If you aren't then there is something else wrong. You logging any of your runs?
