Big problem, need help with rear LSD

Drained the rear diff fluid, Redline Shockproof Heavy and when the drain plug was pulled, there was a christmas tree of LSD clutch pack pieces on it and the fluid was full of them. Did I blow my LSD? How bad is this? Do I need to replace the LSD to drive/drag race it? If this has happened to you before, where do I need to go from here?

Well, the only option you have is to drain it completely, and fill it up. Take it on a cruise and see if you hear any noises or vibrations. Drain the fluid after a good spirited drive and see what it looks like. If you already see particulate in the fluid then I would say you have an issue. If not, there is no harm in running it more. Chances are if it goes you are going to have to replace the internals already, so just get all the life out of it that you can.

When you can afford some down time and also the price of the rebuild, give Shep a call. I know they do rear LSD's for our Evos. Not sure on price though.

Sorry to hear about your luck.

Already installed a new/used clutch pack in the rear LSD, it was blown up! I think running that shockproof heavy in the winter killed it. But I'm sure the 150+ drag strip launches did not help. Also made the move from Redline to Amsoil SVT 75w-110, we'll see how it does.

How often did you go on each Shockproof change?

What color was the fluid when drained?

First 50K used OEM LSD Diaqueen, last 10K used shockproof heavy. Not sure the color, not the one who drained it. But it was chunky, blew the tip off of every clutch pack piece.
