Anyone else have this issue? ETS intercooler pipes.

My car has been running poorly for awhile now, I have replaced all fuel system parts in hope to fix it. My a/f mixture would get lean all of a sudden and the car wouldnt run correctly.

I pulled the bumper off today to repaint the grills. I pull the intercooler pipes off to have a look. And low and behold... THE PROBLEM.

Heres what happens. In heavy rain my cars air filter (open element) gets a little wet. I was under the impression my pipes were made out of stainless steel!

Once I figure out the issue with the pipes, I made a box for my open element intake.

its a very common problem with the older intercooler piping kits they made...if im not mistaken they now use stainless on them all...dunno how that would make your car run lean though...

From what I've read their older versions were made of mild steel and I believe the newer ones are stainless.

I have it running blow through a 3" gm maf sensor. When i pulled the sensor out, it was very dirty.

I'm pretty damn pissed, I "purchased" stainless piping, not ****ty mild steel.

I think that for a small price ETS would change your pipes out for you...how long ago did you purchase them? did you talk to ETS about it?

They were advertised as stainless, I remember because I didn't like the fact that they were stainless. I wanted aluminum.

My ETS pipes look the exact same way. I'm switching to BR soon anyways.

GM MAF and translator is most of the run issues. Think about how many DSMs run around on mild steel and that combo and have no issues till it gets wet. IF there was a mistake, ETS is very good about taking care of it. They keep records on everything that has ever been purchased through them so if you bought it direct they can look it up.

Typically that rust is cosmetic and doesnt affect how the car runs.

I dont think this has anything to do with the pipes. You are sucking up water man. I would recommend a filter shield to block the water, either clean your intercooler pipes or get new ones, and that should fix the issue you are having.

Heres a better idea put a magnet to them. All ETS piping is SS now so if they are indeed 2 weeks old they are SS

Old pipes defaulted to mild steel unless you specified stainless or aluminum. I pefer ss piping to aluminum but that's just me. ETS will swap them out for a small fee and as JB said if you indeed ordered ss I sure they will just swap you.

ETS's CS is def one of the best I have ever dealt with and that's a lot of years of buying parts on many different platforms
