boost restrictor pill REMOVED!!!
I would be careful with that when we were at dyno day gtevo removed his pill and his car spiked at 24psi. He has some mods but if you don't have somthing controlling boost like the xede, it could possibly spike that high and could cause damage or fuel cutoof issues. I took the pill out of mine, but my xede controls it from spiking to high. I boost 20.5 or so and drop to about 20. without the control you could boost really high. If you leave it like that I suugest getting somthing to control your boost. If it gets colder it could even spike higher.
I was actually just going to post the same thing about just removing the hose, The cool dense air caused the boost to ROCKET to 24+ PSI!! Don't bother with the mod I posted info about earlier.. During the summer this mod was consistent at about 21psi for me.. But now.. OVERBOOST.. Just a quick word of warning.. there's no easy shortcut short of putting some sort of valve on the end of the hose and adjusting it (not recommended)
Thanks for the insight guys. While drag racing is not my bag...I did do a lot of road course racing with my M3. Club raced for a while. When I get some miles on the car...I'll definitely be hitting Road Atlanta, VIR, Summit Point and CMP. May get up to Mid-Ohio and Putnam Park.
The Evo isn't linear like the M3. So, I figured I'd try the pill and see what it does. I love this car without the pill. I know it's not a long term solution. Like I said, just wanted to see what the additional boost felt like. If my Evo is anything like y'alls...it runs waaaaay too rich! I'm not a tuner but love to work on my own car. I'm currently looking into either an MBC or EBC. If the Greddy Profec II has a boost guage, I'll probably try that one and see how it does. If not, I think I'll do a separate boost guage and try the Hallman MBC.
Any thoughts of how you guys might handle it? Definitely got to get some guages!!!

Stricktly, you're in Raleigh, right? Man, VIR is awesome. I've run the full course twice. What a blast. Road Atlanta is my "home" track. Been there a bunch. Turn 12 never ceases to make me pucker. I had gotten my times down into the 1:50 range when I was running my M3. Pretty much a stock car except suspension, chip, Hawk Blues and Hoosiers
I'm really looking forward to getting the Evo out on the track. Have you taken the Evo out yet? The car has a lot of body roll as it sits from the factory. What have you done to your car? This is my first experience with an all-wheel-drive. My best friend is trying to talk me into doing One Lap of America in my car. He's got a '92 Eclipse with 360 hp at the wheels but his lag is terrible. He said the Evo's were beating his times and he thought the Evo's were stock.
Who do you run with...Nasa or does Mitsu have some clubs that rent the track for a day of "drivers school"?

BMW club should be at Road Atlanta in March, I will be ready, 350 WHP and just picked up my 2nd set of track wheels today

I usually do 5-6 events a year (most at VIR but maybe 1 or 2 at Road ATL).

Hey I might try to make it down there for that event. We just bought my wife a BMW and joined the BMW club so I have started getting their litting magazine they send out. I hear the BMW club days fill up quick.
My mods include Greddy Evo2 exhaust, Greddy downpipe, HKS super suction intake, and Greddy TypeS BOV. I removed the little pill from my car and ran it hard, I haven't experienced any spike or fuel cut and it was a chilly 57 degrees last night. Is it just some cars that exp. the fuel cut and spiking?
The spiking does not occur all the time. It just depends on how you get on the throttle. You won't experience the spiking or fuel cut in 1st-3rd gear but if you were to roll on the throttle from a higher speed in 4th or 5th, chances are you would see the fuel cut come on which is due to a boost spike.
90% of the time you won't have a problem with this mod but the problem is that there is no control and you don't know what could happen that next time you roll on the throttle. Also, because of the higher boost, the car is dumping super large amounts of fuel into the system to compensate for it and you are basically going to be running very rich and not experiencing near the potential HP of the car--not to mention bad bad gas mileage. With this mod is also going to be essentially impossible to tune because it has no real consistency. So if you really want to get the most HP out of the car, you will want to do some kind of consistent boost controller and a tune (such as Dynoflash--highly recommended).

Not to sound like an idot but does anyone have a pick of the "pill" or can you tell me were its located. I just got my evo a few weeks ago and thought I might try a run with the "pill mod" at track just to see how more boost felt until I can afford to do things right.
thats the restrictor pill removed fromthe boost solenoid line.
I have a question though, If you were to use a MBC, would you just keep the restrictor pill in there? Im on the verge of buying a boost controller, and i was just wondering about this today.
thanks.
just to let you guys know. These methods are used in Vishnu's Xflash. The first method with the total pill removal, and i guess recently he changed that way and placed the pill back into the boost hose and rerouting the hose to the intake.
my 2 cents.
my 2 cents.
