Update on dead motor...

Ok, some of you remember my dillemma from several months ago. The scanner showed a bad crank angle sensor.

I took it in to Concord Mitsu to have it repaired, and this is what was found. The balancer belt had snapped, destroying the crank sensor, autotensioner and everything else on the right side of the motor. They also found something that really P'd me off. There was a foreign piece of metal INSIDE the timing cover. They determined it to be the nub off of a socket wrench where the socket connects to the wrench. It was lodged in the top cover and rubbing on the timing belt. I think the fact that it was kevlar was the ONLY thing that saved my butt and my motor. That and the fact that it didn't break loose...

They asked me when the last time I had replaced my b-belt and t-belt. I produced the reciept that showed them that they had all been replaced approximately 50k miles earlier by another highly reputed shop. While the Greddy kevlar t-belt was still in good shape, they determined that the b-belt was an original FROM THE FACTORY. They said there is NO WAY in hell that the broken b-belt had only 50k miles on it. $1400 later, my little monster is running strong.

I contacted the shop that did the previous work, but due to changing owners, little was able to be done. I will give them credit for being up front with me. They agreed to give me store credit for part of the repair and parts. I was hoping for a little more, but at least they did something. Anyways, I am NOT here to talk trash on the other shop. Just wanted to let you guys know what happened...and vent a little frustration! -stuie

I had my balance belt go out on me while at WOT shifting from 1st to 2nd......made me wonder if it was ever replaced by the shop that did my last timing belt job. When it did let go, I ended up trashing the crank sensor as well....thank god the timing belt held together(replaced with new one since several teeth were sheered off due to the balancer belt breaking) ..no motor damage!!

Glad your car is running good again!

Yeah, the other shop didn't replace it. Yet I was charged for the part AND labor! 105,000 miles and still running strong! I can honestly say this has been the most reliable car I have owned. The only two times it has been in the shop has been due to the negligence of mechanics working on it. Don't even get me started on Jiffy Lube! -stuie
