Airtrek Turbo-R

greetings masters of the street I drive a mitsubishi airtrek turbo which has a 4G63 engine similar to the ones in the latest evo's. Differences are:

- Top-mounted Intercooler ( really makes the engine bay hot)
- Smaller Turbine (not sure of the code)
- Lower compression pistons 8.5:1 as compared to 8.8:1 for the evos
-automatic transmisson only... INVECS II Sport Mode 5-Speed Automatic simmilar to the evo 7 gta...

I dont know if the injectors and the fuel pump is the same but i wil find out...

the car is pumping out 240bhp (engine) and 343nm of torque @ 2500rpm (because of the smaller turbine) and loses breath after 5500rpm.. 1 bar boost about 14psi)

transmisson loss from the engine to the wheels is a very frustrating 36%... so the wheel figures are much less...

I seek for your expertise and advise on how to get this up to a daily driving friendly reliable 300 whp with about 450-500nm of torque @ 2500-3000 rpm because of the auto tranny

so far my performance mods include:
- cat-delete
- hks open airfilter with heat shield(custom)
- hks evc
- hks exhaust (only muffler as recommended by hks... apparently the turbine and auto tranny combo doesn't like anything other then the stock pipe diameters... makes it lose its bottom end... )

These are the mods i have in mind to achieve this:
- walbro 255lph fuel pump
- 264/264 hks cam set
- TD05HRA-16G6 (titanium turbine impeller)
- up boost to about 1.3 bar (18 psi)
- hks oil cooler
- then after the turbine swap get a larger turbo back exhaust...

maybe also:
- larger injectors 660cc
- engine management (f-con)

what else do you recommend or should i include other things to maintain reliability?? PLEASE
Keep up the good work guys!!

Are you in Singapore? Go have a talk with GR, there's an ATR with FCon V Pro that Lester says is giving the local Cayenne owners nightmares.

BTW it might be a good idea to do a brake conversion before increasing power. IIRC ATR is on discs-drums setup....

Picture an Outlander with a 4g63 w/ a top mount intercooler on it.

That's the Airtrek.

I think you're going to have to seriously consider a larger IC, prolly front mounted. Maybe a liquid to air?

Gosh, the dudes that designed the Lancer interior need to go learn a thing or two from the dudes that designed the interior of the Airtrek.

STOCK BOOST IS 0.6 BAR

I seek for your expertise and advise on how to get this up to a daily driving friendly reliable 300 whp with about 450-500nm of torque @ 2500-3000 rpm because of the auto tranny

You WILL break the transmission at 450NM (~42KgM)

- hks exhaust (only muffler as recommended by hks... apparently the turbine and auto tranny combo doesn't like anything other then the stock pipe diameters... makes it lose its bottom end... )

You don't lose bottom ends on turbos with exhaust upgrades.. the NA principle of back pressure for turbocharge cars no longer applies here

These are the mods i have in mind to achieve this:
- walbro 255lph fuel pump
- 264/264 hks cam set
- TD05HRA-16G6 (titanium turbine impeller)

You cannot get the power you want with 1.3bar on that engine. You need at least 1.5 bar for the torque level.. with the 16G, you're going to lose more bottom end..

what else do you recommend or should i include other things to maintain reliability??

Have a spare engine around in case..

specs

Where can I find the 1/4 mile, 0-60, top speed etc... Also does anybody know where I can get a brochure mailed to me? I'll Pay. I sell Mitsubishi's and our Mitsu managers don't know anything about the Airtrek, and he was saying they were thinking about putting a V6 in the Outlander... WHY? The Airtrek is the same thing.
