boost controllers
boost controllers
I have bought a evo 8 that came with a greddy profec spec 2 boost controller .I went to the local tune shop to look into getting the car tuned and ask them about the controller since i was unfamiliar to it . The guys at the tuning shop said that they recommend removing the electronic controller for a manuel boost controller . well since then i put in a manuel boost gauge to ck the electronic one's accuracy . i found that it is spot on . I also picked up a manuel boost controller so if i wanted to i could switch it out . Am very undecieded on this issue due to the tuning shops argument that they are unaccurate i've found that it is pretty accurate . what do you guys think

OP, that EBC works great once properly set up. Most shops aren't sure exactly how to use a lot of EBCs and prefer manuals because they are so much easier to use. I for one am the same way. I use to have that particular EBC though so i am pretty familiar with it.
If you search on this site, there is a write up on how to tune the EBC that is very detailed and effective. YOu will love how that thing reacts and holds boost. Best of luck to you.
True....kinda. If you want to be able to control the boost you are running to a certain degree and you don't want to or unable to tune the ecu yourself or have a shop tune it then I agree.
But don't give the guy the wrong idea. Boost is only one small parameter of proper engine tuning. Just jacking up the boost could lead to picking up pieces of your motor off the expressway. Not sure if the OP has a wideband or any way to monitor knock?
OP, I see you might be new to the Evo world so I would suggest before getting too involved with cranking the boost up, buying any other parts or having work done to your car explore your options. Ecu tuning has come a long way and has proven to be far superior in many ways to old school style tuning.
As for using what you have for now just be careful. I would hate to see your baby go BOOM!
Maybe these guys can lead you in the right direction: http://www.streettunedmotorsports.com/
Only about 120 miles from you if my calculations are correct and from their reputation I'm sure you would be in good hands. Hope this helps!

didnt say to crank the boost, just said to use the thread in order to setup his current ebc correctly in order to maximize the boost response for the current level he is running. I didnt mention anything about tuning or not tuning.... his post was referencing the ebc, it seems like he already has the plan to get the car tuned. However, i will say i appreciate the fact that you are advising him correctly... so much bad advice comes with questions like these.
OP, as for accuracy, i have heard that that particular ebc is one of the most accurately reading units on the market. Not sure the truth in that, but that is what i read somewhere a few years back.

Point taken and I respect your approach to helping him with his question. With that said all I want the OP to know is that if he is getting tuned by a shop he is not limited to a EBC or MBC and does not need to know how to tune a vehicle him or herself in order to have boost controlled via ecu.
My .02 and original point was just that tuning via ecu including boost control in many ways is superior especially in a DD situation. That's all. Lets not let this get too far off topic.
Cheers

off topic can be a great thing sometimes lol... all the way up until we get smacked for it ofcourse...
I think the OPs questions have been answered quite well by both of us... have a great day sir.
