wideband bung placement 8'' from turbo

I received my megan downpipe yesterday in the mail and I went to this mechanic to get a bung welded in for my wideband. He claimed that he had 18 years of experience with mitsubishis and that I won't get an accurate reading if I put the sensor more then 8 inches away from the turbo. I've read over the site plenty and all of the threads that I have read said to place it no less then 24 inches away from the turbo. In my instructions it says no less then 36 inches away. Do you guys think this guy is right or full of ****? Thanks for the input guys.

6"-8" is optimal for accuracy and lifespan.

Hmmm interesting....I have mine on the DP before the catalytic converter....I'd be surprised if there was a huge difference one way or the other....

As long as you do not have a leak it is the same anywhere on the DP. If you go too far, tailpipe for instance what happens is that the delay from the read time to the actual RPM is a little longer. Mine is just before the testpipe. For durability more important is to use the correct angle to avoid condensation. Too close and the heat will kill it sooner.
