Ok so i just got my 03 evo 8 delivered yesterday...

Just drove it for the first time and the car wont shift from 3rd 2 second

has no problem shifting from 1st 2 second or from 4th to 3rd, but will not shift from 3rd to 2nd,

whats wrong?

 

problem downshifting?...are you rev matching?

 

ya, it just wont go into the gear while moving.

does it sound like a gear syncro problem?

 

i never came accross syncro issues on down shift.....but if you are rev matching...idk y that would happen

 

My gearbox will lock me out of 2nd on a 3rd->2nd downshift occaisionally. Will eventually go into gear however, its just a momentary lockout.

Feels like drivetrain movement to me.

 

hmm this is definitly not ocasionally, it just wont let me in while im moving.

 

ok, that sounds like a different problem then. Maybe something in the linkage is bent/loose?

even without functioning syncros, you should be able to downshift via rev-matching. Try matching the rpm while in neutral .... then pop it into 2nd.
