02 Dump Question

I just got my rebuild FP Red back from Forced Performance and installed everything in my car. While I was waiting for it to come back I had my exhaust manifold ported and coated by PPI and I got the Buschur small battery kit. Now that everything is on the car the 02 dump at idle seems significantly louder than before. Just to make sure not to get paranoid, its louder just because of the ported exhaust manifold and the computer trying to compensate right? Meaning the cars not tuned for the increased airflow? I also wanted to see if totally disconnecting the battery and putting a new one in would mess up the computer as well? Anyway you're input would help a lot. Thanks for your time guys

I would check for tension on the wastegate arm. If the wastegate arm is loose it wouldn't be sealing properly and could be letting exhaust gas out of the dump even if it isn't fully open. Also, check all sealing points on the exhaust manifold, turbo and downpipe to ensure you don't have an exhaust leak. When I got my turbo ported I had the same issue until I adjusted the tab on the end of the wastegate arm (kind of a pain in the *** because it is a tight place to squeeze your hands).

How do you go about adjusting the tab on the wastegate?

Shorten the wastegate actuator arm...I had to shorten mmine twice to get the flapper to not rattle...

If you put your hand underneath the dump tube no exhaust gases should be coming out...You put the correct divided gasket on right? But try doing what I said above & see what happens...

Yes...its like a 10 or 11mm stubby wrench...loosen the nut on the actuator arm & pop it off the wastegate flapper on the turbo... short the arm & pull it on the flapper...after tightening it you shouldn't be able to move the flapper at all...

Ok I've checked for leaks and can't find any and the wastegate arm is really tight. Any ideas?

The best way to check for leaks in my experience is using a piece of printer paper and putting it around the turbo and exhaust manifold, if it vibrates then you have a leak. Can't find any leaks, then you are probably fine.

Thanks guys I appreciate the help. I only have hand tools so its a pain. But its going tomorrow to get inspected so while its there I'm going to have them use power tools to tighten everything down especially the downpipe and exhaust manifold just in case..

its noticeably louder and yeah I'm sure cause I put my hand under it. The only other thing I can think of is that its not tight enough where the 02 housing meets the downpipe?

If the sound is coming from the dump and no where else I would say either you didn't use the right gasket and exhaust is coming over from the turbine side or the wastegate outlet is leaking.

When I put my 02 dump on I had the same problem. I tightened the waste gate, but that didn't help. I took off the hotside (8 turbo, 9.8 dual flapper), no matter how hard I pushed it wouldn't seal all the way. So I swapped to the 10.5 single flapper, It hasn't leaked since.
