Hi,

I had posted awhile back that sometimes I smell exhaust fumes while accelerating with the windows (apparently from the engine bay area). I convinced my wife I needed to replace all my I/C piping, throttle body, intake manifold, and exhaust manifold.

This helped, but I still smell fumes sometimes.

While replacing my PCV valve yesterday, I realize the part where it connects to the valve cover is loose, and I can actually pull it out. I'm thinking this may be where the fumes come from. Anyway, this part isn't threaded or anything, so how can I reseal it? Is there a particular sealant/adhesive I should use?

Any input is appreciate. TIA.

In the past with screw type pvc's I used thread seal and silicone on the threads
With the Evo's pcv I would clean and use some silicone as a sealant for it.

Thanks, but just to clarify, the PCV valve is able to thread onto the connector, that part is fine. However, where the connector attaches to the valve cover, the 90 degree piece, I can just pull it out of the valve cover. Does that make sense?

Would silicone help here too? I would think I need something stronger that can work at high temp since it's not threaded at this connection. Maybe I could always pull it out before and it's not an issue?

just a shot out of a cannon but try a small amount of teflon tape? sometimes helps maby not for this application.

it's just a press fit. when the car is hot give it a little tap to seat it in the valve cover.

Check and see if you evap vent line that runs near the fuel line in the engine bay is hooked up. If you removed emissions, maybe the line needs to be re-routed. It can cause nasty smells.

I did remove EVAP, have the STM blockoff plate on my new MAP ported/coated intake mani.

I'll check the line, but it actually smelled even before this change. I think the lines are gone and any hoses are plugged where applicable, but I will confirm. I had thought it was a leak at the throttle body, which apparently is common, esp since mine is a 2003.

I will give it a tap while warm, it does seem to fix snug enough and now that I'm looking for the smell, it doesn't seem bad any more...

Question, "could" I put silicone or some other sealant around the elbow piece, just to see if it helps?

the valve doesn't go in that tight to the valve cover, I would forget about this and move on to trying to figure out where that leack is coming from because one has nothing to do with the other.
