Unorthodox Lightwight Pulley

There seems to be some discussion about the Unorthodox Lightwight Pulley ruining our evo ...
Is this true ?
Will it damage our engine ?
I'm planning to buy the set pulley ...
Has anyone install & whats the results ?
Is it worth it ?

I have lightweight pulleys on another car of mine. It really helps response but it seems to go through power steering pumps and alternators like crazy! I imagine that this would be fairly true for the EVO also.

I have read a thread on here before that lightweight pulleys are worth it if you are just using your car to race / autocross and are going to be rebuilding the motor often. Otherwise use a harmonic balancer that will help your engine last longer when you put mods on.

I recommend avoiding this product. It creates more problems than it solves. By eliminating the harmonic dampener, there is nothing to absorb unwanted crank harmonics that are potentially damaging to the bearings. We've seen one user demonstrate the ill effects of using an aluminum hub, and coincidentally enough, he was in Malaysia.

I acually bought one and is still seating in my room I opted for FD harmonic balancer after looking at info and facts about the impacts on the bearings, is it really worth risking your bottom end?

Im only using the crank pulley by Grupe-s , and have no problems at all if you use the alternator and and power steering underdrive pulley that wil affect voltage and other things.
so im just using the single crank pulley with no problems at the moment.!

Do not do this mod especially if your balance shafts are gone. The oil pump pulley on my friends car broke off his oil pump. Needless to say he drove with no oil pressure and trashed his engine...There is no evidence that the pulley caused that but I'm pretty sure that was the case.

Not to mention, all that effort is for what? Like 5-8 whp? Just turn your boost controller up 1 psi instead.

You wouldn't necessarily know it if it is causing a problem, and that in itself is the problem.

FYI

Ted is so right. You can do a lot of things to a car and not notice any ill effect, but at some point lack of a harmonic dampener will cause an ill effect.

Fluidampr is your friend, and they are only $100 or so more than the top end junk pulleys.
