I need to do mine too soon and was wondering it myself. In the how to fourm there's a write up but it's just a copy from the shop book. I know someone just did a write up but I can't find it, I want to know if he used it or not. From what I heard it's a lot easier but not needed?? I'm guessing it's like the input on the tranny, it's easy to get out with a slide hammer but you can get it out with out it

Just get the AMS timing belt tool from their website. No more than $60 shipped I believe.

they sent me a bent one and wouldn't take it back.

extreme psi sells them for 20. And no you don't need it if you are replacing the belt. its only really convenient for cam installs cuz then you don't need to remove the lower timing cover, but you will have to either way to replace the belt.

you dont need the tool I have replace 2 timing belts on evo 8's and just used a vice or C-clamp to squeze the tentioner back in place, then use a paper clip to hold it in place reasemble all the parts and when you are ready just pull the paper clip out to set the tentioner... it works without the extra cost of special tools
