Options for TC when taking engine out the top?

I've done a ton of searching and have found some threads with bits and pieces of info, but also a lot with conflicting info as well. So, I was hoping someone could give me some advice on the best way to get the engine out the top?

I've got everything removed and the only things left connected to the car are the driveshaft, and shifter cables. (Having a beotch of a time getting the shifter cables off, so my options may end up being limited.) So, do I:

- Pull the driveshaft, remove the transfer case and pull the engine and tranny. (I have a shop crane and engine leveler, so should be doable if I can tilt the engine/trans enough).

- Pull the driveshaft, remove the output shaft and rear piece of transfer case (for lack of better name) and pull the entire thing, engine/trans/and TC? (If this is even possible) ** This seems easiest, but not sure if there's room. **

- Pull the TC with driveshaft still attached and hang it to the side & pull the engine/trans?

- Or, remove the trans in the car and just pull the engine? (Can I remove the trans with TC attached?)

The PS & AC are off the block and staying in the car, if affects anything, like the angle the engine will come out, etc. Oh, and yes, the front axles are pulled already.

I was surprised that there's not more threads on this, but maybe I've been using the wrong search terms. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks!

I swapped my block for a built setup not too long ago, and I just left the T-case in the car, however I did remove the transmission and pulled out the top. A helper on install would be helpful to keep the t-case out of the way while lowering the engine

Some people have better luck just lowering the subframe, and removing the t-case, then dropping the engine/trans out the bottom.

Did you just leave the TC connected to the drive shaft? Is there enough room to slide it off while still connected?

Going out the bottom isn't an option unfortunately. 7 years of salted roads have made the frame bolts a little rusty. Already broke two getting the front tie bar off.

Anyone know if I can just get the TC out with the transny?

Thanks for the response btw.

Pull the drive shaft.... remove the tail shaft cover from the tcase (4 14mm bolts), remove the oil filter housing.... remove anything else on that side you cant clear, maybe some pulleys and a/c bracket etc....... the tcase, trans and motor will come out together as one assembly

Thought I'd post for anyone who reads this in the future...

I wasn't able to get the transfer case out with the engine & transmission. Well, I didn't really end up trying. Even after you take the tail piece off of the TC, there's still the shaft there that sticks quite a ways into the drive-shaft channel. Didn't look there was a hope in hell in getting it all out as one piece so I took the TC off in the car and pulled the engine and tranny out together.
Wasn't as bad as I thought, but I did have to track down a slide hammer. (Actually used a dent puller with a small steel plate bolted to the end, with another hole for the bolt to go through and into the output shaft.)
Once the TC was off it was pretty easy to get the rest out.
Thanks again for the advice!
