i got a 2003 evo 8 with the fp white turbo and recently it started to make a very high pitched whistle or whining noise. it only makes the noise when i am in low rpms and the turbo is spooling slowly but when i am in high rpms i cannot hear it since its spools up quickly and i was wondering if someone could help me out with this

 

Do you have a stock or after-market intake on it?

If you have an after-market intake on it, you will hear the turbo a lot more.

Was this sound out of the blue? Or did you change something?

i got the hks intake and all my intercooler piping and intercooler is hks but yes it happend out of the blue ive had this turbo on since december and the noise just startd about 2 or 3 days ago

 

does it sound like a dentist drill? because thats when turbos are about to take a crap

 

Do a boost leak test. I've got a leak and it sounds like a whistle as the turbo begins to spool.

 

yea thats what i thought but i just wanted to get a second opinion but its a very high pitched noise which does sound like a dentist drill now that i think bout it but its only for a couple of seconds when its spoolin slowly or just startin to spool up

 

ive always been able to hear the turbo spool up but this is the same noise the stock turbo was making b4 it blew but im taking it apart now so i can send it back to fp to have it fixed hopefully under warranty

 

ive never done a leak test is there a website i can go to so i can learn how or is it simple?

 

Cobbtuning has a good write up. They have directions on how to make a boost tester which areas too look out for and even where to buy the replacement products.
