Weird RPM problem in MR

So I'm getting a very worrying issue in my MR. I installed a Hallman MBC a couple weeks ago successfully. However, yesterday, I just installed an Apex'i Turbo Timer and am now getting this problem...

The car feels a little weird when driving it (not the same). Here's what I've determined... When letting off the gas in high RPM and higher gear, the car doesn't "kick back" as usual, it is very smooth. I've determined that this is because the RPMs aren't dropping as fast as normal. For example, if I drive up to 3rd+ gear at 4000+ RPM and just pop the gear into neutral (no clutch) the RPMs just "float" and very very slowly drop down and once then hit 3500 they drop faster and normally. If I push in the clutch at high RPM while this "floating" is occurring, it will then drop faster (which makes me think that the problem is mechanical rather than electrical).

EDIT: I just went for another test drive and here's what I've found: When slowly letting the RPM climb above 5K in 2nd gear without building any boost, and i let off the gas, it works correctly. However, if I build boost to 5K in 2nd gear and let off... there's no "kick" the RPM stick and slowly drop. Even if I pop the gear into neutral during this, it still sticks and VERY slowly drops (in any gear). Unless I push the clutch, then it drops normally... So, if I build boost at any time in any gear and hit above 4000 RPM and let off the gas, the RPMs will float there.. The RPMs seem to want to stick between 4000-5000 RPM...

I can't make a connection between the Apex TT and my problem... Perhaps someone else can? I hooked up the parking brake wire correctly and the ground/o2 sensor wires into the ECU wires.

Obviously the ECU was reset and everything because I had the negative terminal disconnected in the car. I thought maybe the car was "re-learning" my driving habits or whatever, but I've put 14 miles on it since then and this is still occurring...

Other than those two mods, the car is completely stock with 6000 miles on it. Any help would greatly be appreciated!

my stock mr has similar tendencies as far as the "floating" is concerned. my stupid guess is that there is some sort of rev matching programmed in if that's possible. 2k miles stock motor

just because you are not paranoid doesn't mean that they're not out to get you

Is your problem similar to this:

I saw that thread... it's not really like that. It's fine until I'm in higher gear and higher RPM. The RPMs simply dont drop unless I push in the clutch... I might have to take it into the dealership.

Maybe someone has an idea of what I should be looking at ... It is odd that this is happening right after installing the TT...

I have an MR and i have a apexi tt, I know the smooth floating feeling at high rpm, I had it before i installed anything also...I didn't pay too much attention to it , it didn't feel abnormal to me.....maybe your just a lil paranoid, I just thought it was a characteristic of the car...plus it really dont effect my driving in any way

It's just not right... I'm at 5000 RPM... pop it into neutral.. and it stays at 5000? There is definitely something wrong there....

Does this only happen when you put it in neutral without using the clutch, which I don't see why you are doing that. I also got the APEXi TT but haven't noticed the problem with the RPMs floating after going into neutral.

how cold is it in ca?

is your boost kicking in propertly at what you set?

I can't imagine it could be your TT, unless the Apexi turbo timer is doing something to it.

I really don't recommend people tapping into their ecu with their TT, because it's just trouble waiting to happen, for something so cheap.

Try and do this on second gear.

Full wot on first gear to redline, shift and go about 5000 rpm on second gear and let go off the accelerator real quick to see if your car "kicks" or rocks or haults immediately.

That happens because boost cuts off real quick and so does the fuel at the same rate.

If this doesn't happen, I would say check the mbc, then try to run your car with your TT turned off to see if this happens.

I often just pop it into neutral w/out the clutch. When you're slowing down, this is very smooth and causes no wear on the dog teeth.

The car was completely warmed up when this occurs. Oil temp is > 70' celcius. I will try to disable it and see if it still occurs. Boost is kicking in properly... it almost "feels" boost pressure isn't being released... but that's just silly I think. I will go trouble shoot some more.

you're clutchless shifting?

you know there is double clutching for something like this. besides, if you're shifting into neutral, even with clutch it should be smooth.

Thought I read somewhere about ECU cutting fuel when clutch is depressed. If this is the case then clutchless shifting would not trigger this fuel cut/rev drop. Could be wrong though.

I don't think it's your TT, because my MR was doing the same thing
before I installed my TT.

I started to notice this phenomenon after installing a S-afc and Ebc.
(installed before the TT)
