Anyone making power on stock cams and 93octane gas without meth???ect.

Seems like every thread i look at for fp green hta/red/ all have aftermarket camshafts. I am looking to see if anyone has done this and actually made a difference in power at a semi normal boost level(sub 26psi) that is worth recording. i know the power up top is without question a mod in itself, but i would rather not do cams if i do not have to, i like letting my car warm up @7am when i goto work with out blaa blaa blaa blaaa(cam lump). ive been looking at alot of fp dyno threads and have yet to see one on stock cams w.o meth on 93 gas, more interested in the green hta.

also stock manifoldw/ ported or aftermarket o2... pretty much a evo9 with an exhaust, lower intercooler pipe and an intake + an fp green hta +injectors ... worth my time???

Pretty much no downside to doing cams. They don't have to lope like that, just have your idle adjusted a hair higher and get some slightly less agressive cams. You'd make more power with just the turbo sure, but cams are a huge power adder on evos, so you'd sort of be cutting yourself short by not doing them.

I was wondering about the OP's question as well. Specifically, are there guys running 9s with BBKs and stock cams? Just wondering what power the stock cam can make with a the better breathing turbo and mivec...

Who is running 9's on the BBK? AWDMotorsports maybe, right? To answer the stock cam question, no.

The only person successful with the stock cams is awdyno, and he is going high 10's. Not on 93 octane either.

I'm sure others made a lot more, but I remember making 416whp with a BBK on stock cams on 93/4 octane. S2's and speed density made another 40 though. Since you have a 9 get S2's and don't look back. A good tuner will get them to idle close to stock, not lumpy at all. Good luck dude!

Turbos like cams and any other power adder have a sweet spot they function in and if put on by themselves without regard for the other components can have anything from a negative effect to an OK effect but certainly not optimal. So a turbo that spools slower then stock building power in the upper end without cams that operate in the same rpm range will have limited increases in performance as the cams become one of the limiting factors in building power. Now thats not to say you wont get some power up top as a result of changing the turbo--you will, just not the same increases other have seen. The most responsive and best performing cars or at least those enjoyed by their drivers are those that have matched rpm ranges of the cams with the turbo and then any other performace mods like porting, exhausts etc..just the way it is..balance your mods and you will enjoy your ride more.

Go for it. Get a WB and see if injectors will still be needed - might be able handle the fuel without

its not that i am looking to skimp out on doing parts...
cams, would rather not do since the cam lump and i warm up my car every morning. i feel like a jerk as is with a semi quite exhaust
pump gas, because e85 eats everything and i cannot get it here..
meth because it seems like more of a hassle, just 1 more thing that can break, not work.. blow stuff up

I made 540 whp on my Evo 9. Stock cams... stock from the valve cover to the oil pan. Stock head studs...head gasket...rod bolts.

FP Red w/ Magnus v5.

There's your answer. I've also ran the stock turbo hard on race gas with the stock cams and a magnus... 400lb ft 370whp.

But then again, we also have made 540whp with smallish cams (HKS272/280) and 7psi less boost Not saying it cant be done, but if we can make the same power at less boost and straight pump isnt that more fun?

E85 is the key. Otherwise you have to oversize your turbo to make the power on pump...and then you loose the response. its a double edged sword. I'd rather run racegas

Like somebody else said, don't worry about the lump. I wish I had went bigger with my cams, but I have S1's in my IX, and you can't even tell I have cams. Just go with a nice cam setup, and you will enjoy the gains from an upgraded turbo much more.

I have the s1's as well, you can definitely tell the car has cams imo. Cams are a good upgrade, sure you can make power on stock cams, but why when you can make more on upgraded cams?

well its $500 for cams + the install time.... an fp green hta is not much more then that.+ the car will idle like stock, drive like stock(out of boost), and i can warm the car up in the morning.
