visual differences between stock cams and HKS cams?

Im just curious as to whether anyone, vendors included, has looked at the HKS cams side-by-side with the stock camshafts.

If so, what are the visual differences between the two, and how signficant are they?

Heres the reason i ask: I want to keep my waranty. I will not get HKS cam gears b/c they are easily noticeable and recognizable as being aftermarket goods.

But how easy are the camshafts themselves to tell apart from stock?

well if you get the 272's the difference will be lope. but if you get the 264's they have a HKS stamped on the shaft and the edge. but if they are not digging down into your engine, then they only way they would know is if they listen CLOSELY, as even the 264's lope.

The sound of the idle - if the idle is loping, it sounds a little uneven. If you've ever heard some big muscle cars rumble and make random sounds while they're running, that's idle lope. Of course lope is something you can also do in the privacy of your room.

Mitsubishi doesn't need to tear open your engine to know if you've been messing around with it. You guys ever wonder why all of our bolts are marked? Once you turn em, they'll know.

How about this, If you don't have the cash to fix it and you want to install cams DON'T. I am doing cams but if I blow it up I can fix it. People are so funny. "If I change the turbo and do 272's do you think mitsu will know" lol if you can spend a few k on mods save that then do mods in case something craps out.

It's not just the marked bolts...They also have those little magnetic things that come in DVDs inserted into the exhaust, air box and intercooler. When you drive by any mitsubishi dealership without all the installed magnets, an alarm goes off and it takes a picture of you license plates, then your SCREWED!

This also falls into the conspiracy theory about Mitsubishi going to race tracks and voiding warranties of those racing and reading posts on Evolutionm.net and noting those with mods on their cars.

Be sure and put your disclaimer on your posts, race entry forms and license plates!
If you wants cams, PUT THEM IN. If you blow it up, BUILD A STROKER!

It doesn't matter if you have cams or not for the warranty. It would have to be a cam related failure for the repair to get refused. With cams you probably throw away the warranty of the valve train, but i there won't be a problem there unless you over-rev it.

You would be fine for cam gears as it would be difficult to attribute any failre to them.

I wish it were as simple as that. Unfortunately, unless a mitsubishi dealer installs the cams themselves, they cannot warranty the work that someone else does on your motor.

alex - people have posted the stock cam profiles before - that should give you a start as far as a comparison goes.

As far as your dealer noticing, it depends on the dealer - I don't think you'll get anything here except opinions - I would try toalking to local members who also have their cars serviced at your intended dealer.

good point Z1.

2fast - i think the point you're trying to make is meaningless, in the most utter sense of the word.

Regardless of how much many one has, theres no harm in trying to figure out if certain things are likely to void your warantty or not. If it makes you feel a bit more "grand" for thinking that you'll glady blow more money when something breaks, more power to you, but all else being equal, regarldess if you have or don't have to money, a penny saved is a penny that could go towards something else...
