Safety latching turbo bolts

Ok, so I lost four bolts this past weekend at the track. Two from the exhaust manifold/turbo and two from the O2/turbo.

I was wondering if some peeps could post up their solutions and/or techniques used to safety latch the bolts. Drill bits used, type of safety wire, etc. This will be one of my projects this winter.

Also, if someone knows where to buy some bolts that come pre-drilled that would be awesome.

Thanks in advance

Yeah, I don't think loc-tite will hold up to the extreme temperatures seen during a track session.

Torque wrench..., really? Do you have an understanding of the extreme conditions these bolts are experiencing during a track session?

ARP usually has a decent selection of pre-drilled 12 point bolts. The safety wire and pliers can be had at McMaster Carr. MMC also has a good selection of pre-drilled bolts.

On the MMC website:
Safety wire pliers: 5296A25
.025 safety wire: 8860K62

Here is a good write up on how to properly safety wire:

i had a hell of a time on my 1st evo with this...

I actually pulled the manifold/turbo and all... put it all together, safety wired it all up, then put it back on as a unit. Just make sure the safety wire is pulling in the correct direction... you wouldn't believe how many certified mechanics can safety wire an oil drain plug the wrong way...

you can get Nord locks from Mcmaster-carr online. They work spectactular... I use them alot at work and never had a problem yet and I know alot of guys use them on harley headers. But safety wire works too...

Definitely an issue...I was about to go the safety wire route myself, but will first try the Nord lock option...

On a separate, but similarly frustrating situation - any good solutions to prevent boost pipes from popping off ? I was thinking about connecting with safety wire as well....

I've safety wired my turbo without safety wire pliers.

I used cap screws and drilled them with a drill start bit and an 0.065 bit. I used 0.040 wire.

I'm not going to lie, they turned out crappy for my first attempt. I'll be buying a set of safety wire pliers next time I take it off, along with the drill fixture.
