The surge tank is the log part of your manifold. It is the reservoir that the cylinders pull from when the valves open. If it's too small, the cylinders can fill as properly. If it's too big it will simply have detrimental side effects.

We can probably have one made for you, but the stock fittings and the upgrades that I have seen are too small to match the flow potential of the manifold itself. That being said, I am sure it will work for "nine tenths" until you want to bump up the setup to the next level.

This is commonly known as the "plenum".... not sure where the term "surge tank" came from but I understood you

Plenum, yeah that too.

The name probably came from the fact that like the pressure wave bouncing off of the TB and backing up the intake tract when you close it on a turbo car (the reason for a BOV), the air bounces off of the intake valves when they shut and it piles up (higher pressure) in it's runner and actually helps shove air into the adjacent cylinder as it starts to draw air (lower pressure). Thus, at a very high speed, the air surges back and forth a bit between cylinders as it travels up the runner, through the surge tank and into the next runner. I am talking about differential pressure, not absolute. That is a reason why runner length affects powerband. At higher rpm, the bouncing effect occurs faster and therefore the beneficial effect occurs with shorter runners. That is also why I personally don't like the idea of tapered surge tanks.

looks just like JUST LIKE the golden eagle manifolds for honda's, hummm...

Very nice piece either way.
The bell mouthed entry on the plenum side is key to good flow. The tapering of runners should prove to provide good port velocity for the head too.

FYI... The term surge tank was dubbed by JUN.

Actually, JUST LIKE what physics and the flowbench will tell many good designers to build it like. Other designs that don't feature tapered runners and whatnot are probably not following the 'bench or not using one.

FYI, this is really something you want to use once you have a bigger turbo. I don't have any dyno numbers for an EVO yet of any sort but if someone wants to be a tester, email me your complete list of (relevant) mods and I will consider it.

the design looks similar to the manifold from magnus. will it produce the same kind of results for the evo as the magnus manifold does for the gsx?

I cannot comment on the EVO but I expect the results of the comparison between the two to be very similar. Let's just say that I would put a BJCH on my own car.

The BJ manifold is not similar to the magnus manifold in any way. The magnus intake has a tapered plenum that offers better boost response and will not reduce any off boost low end torque. The BJ manifold is a large volume intake that is designed to make power with very large turbos very high in the rpm band.
