GSC S3 cam broke

For any production part whether its steel or plastic, manufactures usually allow a certain # of their parts to fail due to the uncontrollable variables in the process of making them. This is usually referred to as PPM (parts per million) as in how many parts in a million badge do they allow to fail. So its prone to anything manufactured even on the stocks cams that Mitsu. throws in. However, whats sets companies apart, is their customer service and warranty back up, and I think Greg has proved it here if I am not mistaken.
Best of luck to the OP!

aren't you supposed to tighten them in sequence starting in the middle working out?it sounded like you were going across by reading the post is why i asked.
hard to believe at 15 ft-lbs the cam broke in half, wondering if there is some over-torquing involved?

Install is just as the manual states. You should install caps 2-5 and bring them down evenly in 2-3 stepped sequences. Then final tq to 20nm for the last step once fully seated.
Leverage will break any cam that is made of cast and pretty much any cam even if its a forged blank if it won't snap it will surely bend. While we do our best to keep hardness and durability designed in our camshaft blanks we cannot design them to be installed outside of the installation manuals directions. Like I've said before I've snapped cams before because I've been in a hurry and so have plenty of other reputable installers. it's the price you pay for not taking the correct steps as they are laid out for us via the service manual.

Sounds to me like you were tighting down the cam caps with the cam not seated correctly. The extra tension on the cam can cause the shaft to snap (it is a cast shaft). I haven't seen or heard of an issues with the I4 cams having a problem on install, but i will tell you the longer I6 (2JZ or RB) cams we have people break them all the time on install. Please give me a call on monday and we will get you a single intake cam.
