Underdrive pulleys

I'm looking at underdrive pulleys for the Evo and wondering why they are so expensive! A really nice set of underdrives for a V8 muscle car might cost $150 (like the ones from Steeda) but are typically available for under $80. I've even seen fitments for BMW's for well under $300. All the three-piece underdrives that I've seen for the Evo seem to cost more than $350! Can someone enlighten me why they are so expensive? Anyone know of any for the Evo that are reasonably priced? I'm interested in improved performance, not eye candy. TIA.

$395:

The crank is the only underdrive pulley the other 2 are just cosmetic. It's only $220 with the belt from most of our vendors.

All of UR's stuff is usually on the expensive side and they also make only top notch **** so you be the judge. It is CNC machined billet aluminum so it is only going to be so cheap. Remeber, it's not like they will sell tons of them with the limited production of the Evo.

Changing your crank pulleys a great way to break an engine if the new pulley is not harmonically dampened....and most are not.

That's another one of those long standing arugements, there are already other threads on the subject. Factory harmonic dampening is usually pretty poor all things considered. It's not like it is doing any balancing of the rotating components like days of old.

It was in one of the threads with Unorthodox's IC piping, but someone mentioned that their 3G Eclipse pulleys were breaking cars left and right, and they blamed it on poor design of the car.

I'd stay away from the underdrive pulleys - that power can be made elsewhere.

Do not put a solid underdrive pulley on a 4g63. This will greatly shorten bearing an crank life.

I agree, why take the chance. I wouldn't put a solid crank pulley on any inline four. I would look somewhere else for gains.
