Magnus On Stock Turbo?

hey guys, im working on doing a FULL BOLT ON evo ix turbo set up on my 8. i am going to do the evo ix turbo, epm 02 dump, borla exhaust manifold, xs power intercooler, aem meth kit, apexi turboback and kelford 272 cams etc. i know theres more stuff im leaving out but i just want to know if adding a magnus cast manifold to the mix will benifit me? also would porting the hotside and compressor housing of the turbo help too?

Sounds a bit overkill for stock turbo.

A ported and polished stock intake manifold is good to about 600 WHP. After 600 WHP it's a good idea to get an intake manifold with a bigger plenum.

The bigger plenum intake manifolds like the Magnus V5 / AMS F1-I will cause spool up to be poor (when compared to the stock intake manifold), however, what it lacks in spool, it will make up for it in the higher revs.

With the stock turbo, I would stick with something like the MAP Rev 2 intake manifold.

Magnus makes a nice piece however, for the stock turbo a MAP rev 3 intake manifold would also perform well. Also look into an aftermarket throttle body.

would a ported stock intake manifold benefit me more than any aftermarket intake manifold on the market? i know the magnust cast is pretty large oppose to others but would a JM fab manifold (race version) or the Magnus sheet metal be alittle better?

After many conversations with Mike@AWD and others, I've come to the conclusion that no, you do not need more than a good ported stock intake manifold when using a stock-frame turbo, such as the IX, Green, etc. Apparently there's quite a few Evo's in the 9's and faster using the stocker. I was facing this decision too with my FP Black, 2.1L build recently and have decided on the MAP Rev3 ported stocker instead of the AMS F1-i or Magnus, etc.

With the v5 you'll not loose spool but just gain all over in the power band that's one of the best manifolds out there.

the magnus is a beast manifold and I have seen a couple of builds with it doing work BUT the issue is its OVER KILL. he will not get enough flow from the stock 9 turbo to warrant the cost of this 700 dollar peace. he will be lucky to make 400whp with the stocker. now once he upgrades i can understand it but as binky said unless your shooting for 650+ no need in this mod the ported stocker by buschur or map will do but I personally LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!! the PPI EXTREME ported intake manifold so darn sexy!!!!!!!!!

Also op the borla exhaust manifold has cracking issues and the xs power intercooler might get heatsoaked quicker just putting that out there. areas of concern of your mild build

He's still make gains with the magnus v5 no matter what even with the stock turbo.

your still missing the whole point. you can make gains with anything but the turbo of choice is not RIGHT for the manifold that goes back to sloppy building of your car and picking the right parts. Adding a magnus now is overkill and does not WARRANT the cost. he can get his stocker ported for 250 or less. and save 500+ dollars and use that for a ported t/b and injectors etc. Being efficient with your funds available and getting a multitude of mods instead of just one. that turbo is only going to put out so much even with meth he will be lucky to break 410 before its blowing hot air but he can get more mods out the way so the turbo does not have to be run hard and when time to upgrade less that needs to be done

Thank you for all the helpfull info guys! I'm most likely going to go with a buschur ported stock mani, will porting the hotisde and intake side of the turbo help with the flow for my set up? And also would a buschur ported stock exhaust mani flow beetter than the borla tubular? I'm just looking to make those most efficent stock turbo set up, like I said 400-420 tuned on meth if I can!
