Thrown Rod, Need help.

I just bought an 03 VIII and there is evidence of a thrown rod in the oil pan, the pan was patched up. While I drove the car I didn't hear any knocking or ticking. What could the problem be and what could my options be for repair. I'm also thinking about putting in a Cosworth 4G63 2.2L Stroker Kit and want to know if any grinding or modifications are needed to the block for this kit to work, including reboreing the engine for the kit. The instructions say that there is no modifications needed but I want to get someone else's opinion who may be using this kit or a similiar 2.2L kit and if they had to do anything else to the motor. Also wanted to know if the Balance shaft will have to be changed for the kit to work.

ill put it really simple, you need to hone your block if nuttin got damage and you can use it, bore if you decide go .20 or .40 over on the diameter of the pistons. On a 2.2 you can rev to the moon so is better if you eliminate the balance shafts. Thats about it. Also dont get cosworth, overrated motor.

I agree. The cosworth parts are top notch, but, are way over priced. For the price of just the 2.2 kit (not even including machining which can be another $500) you could have an AMS or BR built 2.3 shortblock, installed! My personal opinion though is if you do want to have the increased displacement then go with a 4g64 (2.4L) with better rods/pistons. You can get a very well thought out 4g64 setup for around 5500 bucks with the head installed and sell the old stock parts to ease the pain of spending that much

GL with whatever you decide!

So your car runs and drives? If there is evidence of a thrown rod but the pan is patched it is prob either fixed or the pan was damaged and repaired. If you threw a rod since you bought the car there would be huge holes in your engine and no question about what happened.

I haven't thrown the rod again since I've owned it I know that for a fact. The pan was patched up but after all the problems that I've had with this car from the Dealership I bought it from I ended up ordering a GSC 2.0L performance short block with top of the line everything except for the crankshaft to handle the power I'm going to push through the motor. Has anyone dealt with GSC shortblocks on here at all? I also have a MR exhaust manifold and a skunk 2 intake manifold as well that I will be replacing onto the new engine once it is done. The blown head gasket has already been fixed and heads resurfaced, and head block machined and cleaned.ff
