Opinion: Removing the rear mount?

I just put another clutch in my car and was looking at the rear mount on the transmission. I was wondering, can this be deleted?

A couple things to note is I have AP solid front mount and passenger side mount, I'm looking at the solid transmission mount.

Looking at the design it doesn't seem to do much especially with the two solid mounts. Having it unbolted but not removed there is no movement from the engine and transmission if I try and rock it back and forth. To me if its possible it would be worth the small amount of weight off the car.

Lets hear the pro's, con's, concerns, or whatever.

Thanks

It would be a lot easier to do a clutch without that mount. I would however say to leave it in place. It will take some of the load and since the trans case is what takes the load I would say having it all loaded on the front of the trans is a bad idea.

I wouldn't. All of the engine roll will then be held by one roll stopper (the front motor mount). That may promote more case flex in the tranny and cause issues. Think Subaru gear shattering.

Finally, some input!

Good points by both of you, I'll leave it in.

bump still curious in this....

It seems that the sloop in the mount with high mileage that when car has solid mount it is actually never supporting any weight or transfer motion.

Wondering if anyone has done this or considered it.

I'm wondering, why do you want to remove a transmission mount? You think Mitsubishi put it there for no reason?

Lets just say my Rear mount is currently bent slightly after lifting the subframe and forgeting to make sure it was aligned along with everything else.
Needless to say this mount does alot of work and I can tell in the shifting, throttle input, even the clutch engagement... it knocks and the car shakes when engaging first gear from a stop.

I have new TS mounts ordered, and can't wait to have my car back to normal.

Sorry they are stock currently. I still wouldn't trust not having even if it was rigid or semi solids everywhere else. BTW the Torque Solution rear mount is very solid.

Easiest way to tell is to put it on a dyno and watch the motor movement with and without it. I would personally leave it in place.

haha. i had a shop leave that mount connected on only one end after a clutch install. I was so confused trying to figure out what the noises and viration coming from the car were. No way I'd take it out, especially not if over stock HP

Most common cause of broken axles on ANY car is worn/broken motor/trans mounts.

Never mind that you've got the u-joints in your prop shaft to worry about.
