Box/Resevoir After the Intercooler...

Hi Guys,
I was looking under my front bumper after removing the driver's side wheel and I saw this black plastic box that is connected to the IC pipe that goes to the throttle body. I made a rough scetch so you have an idea of this thing (forgive my drawing, I'm not gifted)...

Yes, I am not sure what is for. Maybe just a helmholtz resonator. I normally remove them to free up some space and provide a path for air to reach the filter.

I'm guessing its to reduce engine intake noise? Most cars have a setup on the intake pipe like this but i've never seen 1 on a turbo car seems stupid, just more space to fill before building boost.

Thanks for the quick reply guys, so is it safe to say that I can TOTALLY remove the resonator and weld the pipe that fed it with air from the InterCooler!?

I think I will be doing this during the weekend, I also want to relocate my battery to the boot while at it.
