Temp gauge rises when stopped
Stop saying its the fan!! Its not the fan.. He says he stops temp go up but then goes back down to normal.aka not the fan!! And plus it happens while driving now so now its for sure not the fan...start with something simple like a thermostat its probably sticking or you get air in your coolant maybe from a bad gasket
Update:
I thought it was fishy that my gauge was only rising when the radiator fan turned on, so i tested it. I unplugged the radiator fan fuse when it kicked on. I waited a bit before i unplugged it to ensure the gauge was acting funky still, and it was. So i let it rise a bit and then unplugged the fan. Bam, what do you know, the gauge goes back to normal.
OK so now that i have it narrowed down, what the hell is the actual problem? Ive never seen this before. The radiator fan itself is causing the temp gauge to act funny. Anyone offer any assistance?

mitsu has had fan controller issues in the past and if the temp sensor is wired into the fan controller in any way it could be causing a wierd electrical problem causing the guage to act funny. Borrow a mechanical guage and see if the two agree. Also you could log the ecu and see what temp the ecu is seeing.
Turn the heater on full blast, if the problem is the same, just very slightly less, then there's a wiring problem. If the engine run's cool, then the cooling system might be malfunctioning.
BTW, letting the engine idle like above 220F can ruin stuff

hah yea i didnt let it idle like that. when it first started doing this i pulled over immediately after i freaked and turned it off. I will call up my mitsu dealer and ask them whats up with the fan thing.
This is funny cuz I had similar issues as well. My Evo kinda did something like this. When I turn on the rear defroster my temp gauge would go to H. As soon as I turn it off it the temp needle goes back to normal. Your problems seem like an electrical issue and your coolant system is probably fine but who knows. What I did was double check all the grounds and I got an Apexi grounding kit =]. After that my problems were fixed.
I just logged and it got up to 192 and stopped when idle. I didn't drive it. It stayed at 192 regardless of what the temp needle was doing. It was all over the place. I am in Tucson btw, temp here is in the 100s still. What is the normal idle temp?
Was just about to say get a infared thermo and shoot your rad temps at different points as well as the side of the block to make sure you don't have some bogus guage readings.
Yea something is going on in the electronics. When the fan turns on and the temp needle hits H, the car begins to act funny and I noticed the voltage starts to hit 13.5+. Gah how am I gonna track this one down.
