No really this time...time for a new clutch!
Ok, so my car is on the rack and getting a new clutch this week. The previous owner (a good friend of mine) got screwed on a clutch install back in 06. He paid a local speed shop to have a Kevlar single disc setup put in the car and it never happened. Shortly after that supposed install the car was rear-ended and set to be totaled. At that time offered him the difference of what the ins company would pay to repair the car vs total it (he paid cash for the car when new) plus more. It worked out well for us both since he got more for the car than he would have otherwise, and I got a rebuildable EVO MR for a great price. So, a few years of rebuild time later and the supposed Kevlar setup would have ~1K miles put on it. During this down time boost leaks and tuning issues kept me from driving the car hard so the clutch issue rarely surfaced.
After sorting out all of the tuning and whatnot I found the clutch would slip under boost. My first thought was that the kids who were quite taken by the car at the body shop where it was repaired may have damaged my clutch while it was there. I eventually lost all engagement and had the car hauled to my mechanic.
According to the records from the speed shop...the clutch installed was supposedly an ACT HDSS. Well, much to my diappointment we found the OEM clutch still in the car when we pulled the tranny. After the mixed up info about the clutch being Kevlar and ACT and so on and so forth my mechanic was nice enough to pull the clutch without having the replacement parts on hand. The plan was to overnight/ express ship any needed parts in order to not tie up his bay.
I have a good price on an Exedy Twin Disc from MAPerformance shipped to me, but i cant get the shipping done until Mon. Not that big of a deal because the shop where my car is is also closed on the weekend. Although I'm sure my mechanic would appreciate the clutch being there Monday morning he is very understanding and a racer himself. So, he realizes the importance of getting the car set up correctly so it's not back in the shop with another blown clutch in short time.
I'd also like to source a HRB (hydraulic release bearing) and stainless clutch lines for the install, but if they delay the install I can forego the HRB and add stainless lines at home. I'm excited to get my car back since for the most part it has been an ongoing project since Oct of 06.

The new clutch is in and working well. I am throwing a code for intake came timing too far advanced and I'm trying to get that sorted out now. If I need a retune I am going to hold off umtil I can get the car set for e85 at the same time. I never thought it would take 3 yrs to get this car back on the road...
