I would take apart the head and bleed each lifter if at all possible.

Then you can eliminate all your problems. It's only like a 2 hour job.

And sobo if you go through my whole thread I went as far as putting brand new lifters in, not just bleeding. Ongoing problem.

I also emailed kelford to see if there are any issues with evo ix 272 mivec cams

If it makes any difference, I have GSC S2 cams. Although I probably won't have much time to work on the car the rest of the season. :-\

So I have had a minor tick also.. Its mostly when its cold but even when it warms up its not necessarily gone. Stock except exhaust and intake. The tick makes a pattern though and maintains it perfectly. It ticks and then quiets.. then increases to normal loudness then quiets.. It follows a perfect beat its strange..

So why do our cars have lifters? I thought OHC tapped the tappets directly..

Lifers or for the 4G63, lash adjusters(same thing) if you will, reduce shock and wear on the valve train\cam.

Have you tried to run it for a few seconds and rev with the accessory belt off? maybe its a pulley or the waterpump or something else doing something funky since its RPM related ..

Better yet unhook a coilpack see if it stops doing it when it runs on 2 cylinders, if so then its for sure engine related.

Pulling the pan would be my last resort....... did you drain oil yet and look for any weird shavings? might be a wrist pin since it stops ticking when the car is just idled and only does it when reving.

The last time I saw this happen on a customer's Evo9 at a workshop, and after numerous checks the part causing the noise was the Mivec camshaft pulley.
They had it replaced & the noise was gone.

So tat might be worth taking a look... ...

I've also been meaning to check my mivec cam pulley as well. I wish I had spare time these days.

Im having the same issue but mine got real noticeable when I installed my ported FP red and FP high flow oil supply line and blocked off the oil supply port in the head. I had my o2 leak due to running a dump and used the oem gasket thus the bridge separating the turbine gas and wasgate gas were mixing but I fixed that now. But the sound is only there at idle and when I take off in first for a few seconds then driveing goes away but at idle its back. Im untreated in this as well want to make sure care does not go boom lol but my a/f is slightly off due to fixing the leak but monday will get a touch up tune.

Bump...curious to see if OP found a solution.

Having this same issue right now. Mine definitely sounds like an exhaust leak...but I haven't been able to get under the car to investigate as of yet.
