Tomei arms m7960

Dear Friends,

it will be a Simple Question....SHALL I UPGRADE MY EVO VIII TURBO TO M7960???

I am looking for 450-400Whp so will this turbo meet my requirements with good spool and hold of boost. I read about it and it looks empressive but I dont c lots of Evo Owners getting it.

I am running 340whp on my stock Evo8 at 1.6bar. Got HKS 264/272 cam, boucher racing turbo exhaust, Excedy twin clutch, HKS suction Intake, DNP exhaust manifold and all custom piping, ATP Fuel regulator, RC750 CC Injectors, ARP head and conrod studs, BC Springs and Retainers....etc

Well I hope i can get a feedback from someone experianced and better if he has the Turbo...

Regards,
A.Balucci

I had it and yea you could make that power, but to be honest I like that new HKS turbo that came out now, its a bit better than the Tomei (ball bearing, probably spools faster and its more reliable, makes more power?)....look for a thread in the Dyno results section...good luck

He is talking about this one. The GT7460. Good option for people really wanting to run high boost through a stock frame turbo with the reliability and power of a ball bearing platform.

My friend has it, and he is making 460awhp with E85 as well. He loves this turbo. I for one would go with a red or black. But with this turbo, you can hit your goal easily.

Marhabtian,

I ve noticed that the ARMS is somewhere between those two turbos and it hold boost and spools very nice.

Tuning in Oman is great, My friend does ECU flash and Apexi. Just finished from tuning my friend Evo9 GSR with Exhaust, testpipe and Air Filter and managed to extract 330 whp 297f tourqe

I have Tomei Arms since few weeks in my Evo 7. I love midrange and top range power - this turbo is making power till the redline, but I am not happy with the spool. I have stock intake pipe (maf->turbo) and stock licp - could they be reason of late spool? My Tomei is making full boost about 500 rpm later than stock 8 turbo. Is it normal?

True, it's a lazy spooler, they should make a ball bearing version/upgrade!

So, if I change maybe licp or intake tube, the spool could be better?

About the best thing you can do for spool is install a Turbosmart 18 or 22psi IWG75 wastegate.
Preload to ~1/2 an eyelet and see how that goes.

I have M7960 revised version with blue billet actuator. I am not sure how could help the other actuator. What's the point?

I personally think those turbos are cheaply made, and for what you get powerwise out of them is not worth it. Esp for the spool and boost recovery charactoristics you get with them. I think they dropped the ball on the entire design. Id vote FP or HKS anyday over tomei. Alot of them are prone to crack at the divider as well.
