Cheap and good should not be used together LOL! That being said, I have been running a Eagle crank for some time and that has been good, cant say the same for the rods though.

i agree, cheap and good is not in the same recipe, bottom line, the more power you seek the more money you will spend.
think of it this way, if you were parachuting off a plane would you be looking to pay for the cheapest shoot? i think not

I used both the 2.4l eagle crank and the eagle rods. Both worked wonderfully in my build, but I also spent some money on the machine work (line honed the block, balanced everything, etc) Depending on your intended power level, I would step it up to a stronger/beefier steel rod. Dont hold my feet to the fire, but I wanna say the Eagle rods are good up to the 500ish hp level?

Eagle rods are rated for 1000 HP while the cranks can withstand 1500 HP on paper anyways.

If it's,

Good & Cheap it won't be Fast
Cheap & Fast it won't be Good
Fast & Good it won't be Cheap

How much power do you plan on making?

The Eagle crank is the only thing I can vouch for

Unless you get the parts for free

My 6bolt 2.3 DSM is running both an Eagle crank and Eagle rods.

I've run it up to 900(ish) crank hp and rev it out to 9000rpm

This shortblock has lasted through 2 seasons so far. Twice I rolled new bearings into the block because of paranoia, but in reality I should have left it alone as the bearings looked fine. On the 2nd bearing service I also replaced the rod bolts with new ARP 2000 bolts. (again paranoia more than anything)

A couple of things to note:
  • I did have the machine shop rework and balance the rotating assembly.
  • I'm running a Kiggly main girdle on the 6bolt block.
  • A Fluidamper is also on the block to keep harmonics down.
I also had a couple of booboos on this shortblock:
  • A 100 shot of nitrous that went sideways blowing a Felpro MLS head gasket
  • A boost leak test with the key left on causing a meth system induced hydrolock
After all of this abuse, I wouldn't have any problem believing the 1000hp rating that Eagle advertises for their rods.
